Dear Parents,
Congratulations to all our Primary students who participated in Music
Night. It was a lovely evening with a variety of musical talents. I especially
enjoyed the Primary music activity group who gave a great start to the show!
Thank you to Mrs Gilby and all the staff who organised the event. For those of
you who receive the email version of this newsletter, there are some very nice
pictures of the event.
Our year 6, 7 and 8 pupils went to Mexico City to participate in a Sports
Hall Athletics event last Saturday. We competed against three other schools:
The Edron, Lancaster and Greengates and although we ended in fourth position,
all of our students enjoyed the day and did extremely well for their first time
entering this kind of competition. We are looking forward to competing again
next year. I would like to give special
congratulations to Rafael in year 8 who showed outstanding talent in the
sprints and long jump. Well done! Thank you to Mr Romero and his team of staff
for accompanying the pupils as well as to Lili N for her support during the
trip.
Many thanks to the Hacienda
Grande families for their kind donation towards the development of our school
grounds. We now plan to buy grass for the perimeter of the cricket practice nets.
I would also like to thank
Amira Dávalos who came into school, this week, to help with some exciting
planning for the Primary Spanish teaching. We hope to see more of her in the
future.
Our Prepa Chemistry students
had a great trip to the National Neurobiology Institute in Queretaro where
brain processes are investigated. They visited the memory and reproduction
laboratories and students were quite interested in the relationship between the
brain and reproduction. They finished their visit with a pleasant walk around
the historical area of downtown Queretaro. Thank you to Mrs Pallares for
organising the visit and to Mr Binnis and Gustavo for accompanying the group.
Year 10 had a tiring but very
worthwhile trip to the Anahuacalli Museum in Mexico City yesterday to see the
Clipperton project exhibition. The students participated in various workshops
as well as listening to talks by Jon Bonfiglio, the director of the project,
and other members of the team. Thank you to Mrs. Gilby for arranging the trip
and Mr. Hiley and Mrs. Gilling for accompanying the students. Please go on to

events and expeditions that are being organised.
More great news from our
students! Montse, year 13, has been accepted at the Los Angeles Film School in
California, USA!
Year 4 received special
recognition for their interpretation of the Mexican National Anthem in the
local competition. Well done!
On Thursday of this week, our
Kinder students made a visit to the San Juan del Rio Fire Department. The
firemen were very nice and gave the group a tour of station. They were able to
participate in real life simulations and learned what to do in case of an
emergency. Thank you to Mrs Garcini and Miss Bull for organising the visit and
to all of the parents who helped out with transport.
We
were very proud to hear that one of our ex-students, Laura Whittall, class of
2005, was placed first place in the National Residency Exam for Internal
Medicine. All med students must take this national exam after they finish their
studies and residencies in order to go on to their specialisation. Laura
studied Medicine at the UAQ and is now studying her specialisation at Mexico’s
General Hospital.
You
will find a colour graph of our seatbelt survey in the email and website
version of this newsletter. We are pleased to see that there was a significant
increase in the use of seatbelts by Friday.
'The Jungle Book' tickets ($20 pesos each) and
T-shirts ($60 and $80 pesos depending on the size) are now on sale in Reception
and the PA will be selling ‘jungly’ refreshments during the 20 minute interval.
Performances will take place on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th
March at 7:15 pm at school.
Next
week, my parenting course will be focusing on the motivational aspect of
emotional literacy. We will be talking about ways in which we can discover what
motivates our children and how we can increase their motivation. This will be
on Wednesday at 1:45pm in room 1010.
One of our teachers would like to find a nice home for
a puppy. If you or anyone you know would like to adopt it, please contact Miss

Valencia, Gabat Laboratories, recently changed his cell phone number. It is 427
231 3581. Please call him if you have any questions about clinical tests for
your children.
Please remember that Book Week in Primary is next
week. Parents are invited to visit the classrooms at 1pm on Friday. It is
important that you inform the school, in advance if possible, you are taking
your children home early or by car instead of using the bus service. Thank you.
Traffic
reminder: The more VICTORIA grows, the
more attention we need to pay to the direction cars access and leave the
school. All parents must wait in the traffic line unless they need to come into
school for something. In which case, parents need to drive into school and park
their car. It is very important not to park on the streets outside. This has
caused several problems in the morning and at the end of the day when our
school buses require easy access. To drop off or pick up students, parents
should not drive up nor park on Francisco Avila Mina since our neighbours’
houses often get blocked. This street should only be used as an exit from the
area. It causes too much congestion and is very unfair on those parents who do
wait in the queue.

Muchas
felicidades a todos los alumnos de Primaria que participaron en la Noche
Musical. Fue un evento muy agradable con una variedad de talentos musicales. Me
gustó mucho el grupo de la actividad musical de Primaria por su excelente
inicio de la presentación. Muchas gracias a Mrs. Gilby y a todo el personal que
organizó el evento. Aquellas personas que reciben la versión electrónica de la
carta podrán ver algunas de las fotos de esa noche.
Nuestros
estudiantes de Años 6, 7 y 8 fueron a la Ciudad de México el sábado pasado a la
competencia de atletismo. El VICTORIA compitió en contra de tres escuelas: el
Edron, Lancaster y Greengates. Aunque terminamos en cuarto lugar, nuestros
alumnos disfrutaron mucho del día y considerando que fue la primera vez que
compiten en algo de este tipo, fue una muy buena participación. Nos dará mucho
gusto volver a competir el próximo año. Un reconocimiento especial a Rafael de
Año 8 por haber mostrado un talento especial en las carreras de velocidad y
salto largo. ¡Muy bien hecho! Gracias al Prof. Romero y su equipo por acompañar
a los atletas. También le agradecemos a Lili N por todo su apoyo durante el
viaje.
Muchas
gracias a las familias de Hacienda Grande por su amable donación para continuar
con el desarrollo de la escuela. Planeamos comprar pasto para plantar alrededor
de las redes de cricket.
Amira Dávalos
nos visitó esta semana para ayudarnos con la planeación de la enseñanza del Español
de Primaria. Esperamos verla más en el futuro.
Los
alumnos de Química en Prepa fueron al Instituto Nacional de Neurobiología en
Querétaro donde se investigan los procesos cerebrales. Visitaron los
laboratorios de memoria y reproducción y los estudiantes se interesaron mucho
en la relación entre el cerebro y la reproducción. Terminaron su visita con una
muy agradable caminata por el centro histórico de Querétaro. Gracias a Mrs.
Pallares por organizar la visita y a Mr Binnis y Gustavo por acompañarlos.
Año 10 hizo
un viaje a la Ciudad de México y regresó cansado pero valió mucho la pena, visitó
el Museo Anahuacalli el día de ayer donde hubo una presentación del Proyecto
Clipperton. Nuestros alumnos participaron en varios talleres y escucharon
pláticas por parte de Jon Bonfiglio, el director del proyecto, y de otros
miembros de su equipo. Le agradecemos a Mrs. Gilby por organizar la visita, a Mr.

Año 4
recibió un reconocimiento por su interpretación del Himno Nacional, en una
competencia a nivel local. Bien hecho.
El jueves
de esta semana, los niños de Kinder fueron a San Juan del Rio a la estación de
bomberos. Los bomberos fueron muy amables y les dieron una visita guiada de las
instalaciones además de realizar simulacros reales donde los niños
participaron. Aprendieron qué hacer en caso de una emergencia. Gracias a Mrs
Garcini y Miss Bull por llevarlos junto con todos los padres de familia que
apoyaron con el transporte. Muchas gracias.
Estamos
muy orgullosos de una de nuestras exalumnas, Laura Whittall, quien terminó en
el 2005, por obtener el primer lugar en el Examen Nacional de Residencia de
Medicina Interna. Todos los estudiantes de medicina toman este examen al
terminar sus estudios y su residencia para poder seguir con su especialización.
Laura estudió Medicina en la UAQ y se encuentra en el Hospital General de
México estudiando su especialización.
En la
versión electrónica de esta carta verán una investigación realizada por alumnos
acerca del uso de los cinturones de seguridad. Podrán ver que hubo una mejoría
significante en el uso del mismo al final de la semana.
Ya se encuentran a la venta los boletos y las playeras de la obra ‘El
Libro de la Selva’ en Recepción. Cada boleto cuesta $20.00 pesos y las playeras
cuestan $60.00 o $80.00 pesos dependiendo del tamaño. La APF tendrá a la venta
bebidas refrescantes ‘de la jungla’ durante el intervalo de aproximadamente 20
minutos. Las presentaciones se llevarán a cabo el jueves 7 y viernes 8 de marzo
a las 7:15 p.m. en la escuela.
La
próxima semana mi curso para padres se enfocará en el aspecto motivacional de
la conciencia emocional. Estaremos hablando acerca de la forma en la que
podemos descubrir lo que motiva a nuestros hijos y como podemos incrementar esa
motivación. El curso es el próximo miércoles a la 1:45 p.m. en el salón 1010.
Una de nuestras maestras está buscando un buen hogar para un cachorrito.

alguna duda acerca de los exámenes clínicos de ustedes o sus hijos.
Les recuerdo que la Semana del Libro se llevará acabo en Primaria la próxima
semana. Se les invita a visitar los salones el día viernes a la 1 p.m. Es
importante que informen a la escuela, con tiempo, si se llevan a sus hijos
temprano y que no utilizarán el servicio de camión ese día. Gracias.
Recordatorio de tránsito: Entre más
crece el VICTORIA, más atención tenemos que poner en la dirección del acceso y
salida de los autos. Todos los padres de familia deberán hacer fila a menos que
tengan que tratar algo en la escuela. En ese caso, deberán estacionarse dentro
de la misma. Es muy importante que no se estacionen en las calles aledañas.
Esto ha causado muchos problemas por la mañana y al terminar el día, ya que los
camiones escolares requieren de fácil acceso. Para dejar o recoger a sus hijos,
los padres de familia no deberán manejar en sentido contrario al ya indicado ni
estacionarse sobre la calle Francisco Ávila Mina ya que se bloquean con
frecuencia las casas de los vecinos. Esta calle únicamente se deberá utilizar
como salida del área ya que causa mucho tráfico además de ser injusto para
aquellos padres que sí se forman para dejar o recoger a sus hijos.
