Dear Parents,

This is our 800^th newsletter and to celebrate, the Student Council was very happy to write it for you…

Not only are we celebrating our 800th newsletter to parents, but we are also celebrating our 20th anniversary! The Parents’ Association cordially invites you to the ball at Hacienda El Capricho, 25th May at 8pm. The cost of the ticket per person is $450 pesos and includes: dinner, music, corkage and unlimited soft drinks. We would like to share with you some of the exciting events taking place at VICTORIA:

·         Year 8 students started a project germinating beans. We hope the majority of their beans don’t grow since this would prove their hypotheses.

·         Year 6 is writing stories on bullying where the character becomes friends with an animal. They told us that they related the character with Michael Jackson when he wrote the song ‘Ben’ since it’s about him and his best friend, his pet. It was very interesting to see how they use their imagination!

·         We can’t forget our Kinder students. They are making farm animals with eggshells and learning at the same time. Most of them can identify the sounds each animal makes.

·         The first VICTORIA T-Shirts are now ready! They are on sale for any students who would like to buy one from Rodrigo in year 12. There are several colours and sizes, at only $110. We know you’ll look great so please don’t hesitate in buying yours. The word of the week is anniversary.

·         Years 7, 8 and 9 are looking forward to Something Different week. But, those teachers organising some of the activities need the donation of some materials: newspaper, cereal boxes and paint brushes for Venetian masks. Thank you. 

·         On Thursday, year 4 went on camp to La Cruz where they climbed the nearby hill, swam, painted T-shirts and played ball and Kick the Can. Thank you to all the parents who helped taking the kids and to Mrs. Gilling, Miss Bircumshaw and all the staff for organising the camp.

·       On Tuesday this week, our ex-classmate, Ruy Castillo, came in to give year 10 and 12 a talk on how to manage changes in life. It was very interesting to know how changes at school, work or in our lives can cause stress or anxiety. On Thursday, the outreach officer, Evelyn Torres, from New York University campus Abu Dhabi, came in to show the year 12 students what the university has to offer. We hope it was of great help!

·       Congratulations to Andrés, Diego and Luis from year 12 and to Pablo G in year 9 for winning first place at the Black Thunder 7 Rugby Tournament in Mexico City last Saturday. We would also like to congratulate José Carlos in year 3 for reading the week’s important historical dates during our Flag ceremony. We know how difficult it can be to speak to the entire school.

·       We would like to thank the Parents’ Association for giving us the material we used to make our mums a gift. It was really nice to make something sharing the experience with our brothers and/or sisters. We hope you had a wonderful Mothers’ Day!

·       For all those who receive the newsletter via email, you’ll be able to see some photos of the various activities.   

During the week and to write this newsletter, we asked our fellow schoolmates what they thought about VICTORIA and this is what they told us:

“The education we receive is good and the facilities have improved. We now have computers and projectors. Soon there will be new classrooms.”

“The new playground gives me more time to be with my friends and we can pretend to be pirates.”

“The talks on bullying helped some of my friends stop bothering others and for everyone to be happier.”

“Starting Prepa seems easy, but now that I see my schoolmates in year 11 really concentrating and even suffering because of their IGCSE exams, it has helped me realise we must leave laziness behind and study hard in all our subjects. Above everything else give our all in everything we do.”

“I’m really happy with all the events organised at school. They’re all fun but the school play was the best. It was very funny to see everyone dancing and singing the way they did.”

Finally, we would like to help Mr. Bonfiglio. He is the person in charge of the Clipperton Project and he has taught us a lot about waste and pollution, most of all how it affects us globally, not to mention organising lots of cricket events. He is about to leave Mexico and asked if we could advertise some things he would like to sell before leaving. He is selling a retro cooker ($1000), a small wooden kitchen cabinet ($400), a washing machine ($600), a ceramic water dispenser ($400), a fridge ($600) and a wooden cabinet ($600). We, as the Student Council, are very happy that the events we have organised have been well received and we are organising new projects. Thank you to students and parents for all your support.

QUERIDOS PAPÁS:

Esta es la carta semanal número 800 y para celebrarlo el Consejo Estudiantil se complace en escribirla…. 

¡No solo celebramos la carta número 800, también estamos festejando que este año VICTORIA cumple veinte años! La Asociación de Padres de Familia los invita a la Cena de Gala en la Hacienda El Capricho el 25 de mayo a las 8 p.m. El costo por persona es de $450 pesos e incluye: cena, música, descorche y refrescos ilimitados. Queremos compartir con ustedes algunas de las sorprendentes actividades sucediendo en el VICTORIA:

·         Los alumnos de Año 8 ya comenzaron su proyecto para germinar frijoles. Esperamos que la mayoría de sus semillas no crezcan ya que esto demostraría su hipótesis.

·         Año 6 está escribiendo cuentos sobre el bullying, donde el personaje se hace amigo de un animal. Nos comentaban que lo relacionaron a Michael Jackson cuando escribió la canción Ben, ya que la canción habla de él y su mejor amigo, su mascota. ¡Fue muy interesante ver como usaban su imaginación!

·         No nos podemos olvidar de nuestros pequeños de Kínder. Están haciendo animales de granja con cascaras de huevo, se divierten y a la vez aprenden. La mayoría de ellos ya saben identificar que ruido hace cada uno de los animales.

·         ¡Las primeras playeras del VICTORIA ya están listas! Están a la venta para todos los alumnos que deseen comprarla. Si quieren una, favor de contactar a Rodrigo en Año 12. Valen $110 y hay en varios tamaños y colores. Les aseguramos que se verán muy bien, así que no duden en comprar una. La palabra de la semana es aniversario.

·         Años 7, 8 y 9 ya están en espera de la Semana Diferente. Pero para esa semana, las maestras que están organizando algunas actividades, piden la cooperación de ustedes trayendo periódico, cajas de cereal y pinceles para hacer máscaras venecianas. Gracias. 

·         El jueves Año 4 se fue de campamento a La Cruz, donde escalaron el cerro, nadaron, pintaron camisetas, jugaron pelota y bote pateado. Gracias a todos los papás que ayudaron a llevar a los niños y a Mrs. Gilling, Miss. Bircumshaw y a todo el personal por organizar el campamento.

·       El martes uno de nuestros excompañeros, Ruy Castillo, vino a darnos una plática acerca de como manejar los cambios en la vida. Estuvo muy interesante saber como los cambios en la escuela, trabajo o en nuestras vidas, pueden causar estrés o ansiedad. El jueves, Evelyn Torres, la oficial de divulgación de la Universidad de Nueva York  de Abu Dhabi, vino a dar una charla a los estudiantes de Año 12 sobre lo que la universidad tiene para ofrecer. ¡Esperamos que les haya sido de ayuda!

·       Muchas felicidades a Andrés, Diego y Luis de Año 12 y a Pablo G de Año 9 por haber quedado en primer lugar en el torneo Black Thunder 7’s de Rugby, que se llevó a cabo el sábado pasado en la ciudad de México. Felicitamos también a Juan Carlos de Año 4 por leer las Efemérides para todos nosotros durante los Honores a la Bandera. Sabemos que no es fácil hablar al frente de todos nosotros.

·       Queremos agradecer a la Asociación de Padres de Familia por darnos el material que utilizamos para hacerles un regalo a nuestras madres. Fue algo agradable de hacer sobre todo la convivencia entre hermanos. ¡Esperemos que hayan tenido un excelente día mamás!

·       Todos los que reciben la carta por correo podrán ver las fotografías de varias de estas actividades.        

Durante la semana y para escribir esta carta, les preguntamos a nuestros compañeros lo que pensaban del VICTORIA y esto fue lo que nos dijeron:

“La educación que nos dan es muy buena, las instalaciones mejoraron, ahora tenemos más computadoras y proyectores. Y pronto habrá mas salones.”

“El área de juegos que nos pusieron me da más tiempo con mis amigos y que podemos jugar a los piratas”

“Las platicas sobre el Bullying sirvieron para que algunos de mis amigos dejaran de molestar a otras personas y para que todos estuvieran felices.

“Entrar a Prepa se nos hace fácil, pero ahora que observo a mis compañeros de año 11 muy concentrados e inclusive sufriendo por los IGCSE, me sirvió para darme cuenta que hay que dejar la flojera atrás y aplicarse en las materias, pero sobre todo hacer un esfuerzo en lo que hacemos.”

“Estoy muy contenta con todos los eventos que hay en la escuela. Todos son divertidos, pero lo mejor fue la obra de teatro. Fue muy chistoso ver a todos bailar y cantar de esa manera.”

Y por último, queremos ayudar a Mr. Bonfiglio. Él es la persona encargada del Proyecto Clipperton y nos ha enseñado mucho acerca del desperdicio y la contaminación, sobre todo como nos afecta mundialmente, además de organizar varios eventos de cricket. Está por irse de México y nos pidió anunciar varios cosas que quiere vender: una estufa retro ($1000), un gabinete chico de madera ($400), una lavadora ($600), un dispensador de agua de cerámica ($400), un refrigerador ($600) y un gabinete de madera ($600). Como Consejo Estudiantil nos da gusto que nuestros eventos hayan sido de su agrado, estamos planeando nuevos proyectos. Gracias alumnos y padres de familia por todo su apoyo.

Dear Parents, 

We are very pleased to share with you that Uriel (year 11) participated in the Mexican Olympic Games that took place in Tijuana. He made it to the finals and got a bronze medal in the 50 metre breaststroke event. This is an outstanding achievement and we are very proud of you, Uriel, well done!

Also, well done to Hector in year 5 who read the key dates of the week in flag ceremony! It’s great to see how confident our Primary pupils are in addressing the whole school!

Rehearsals for the Primary drama production are underway! If your child is participating in the play, please ensure they come to school every day so they can rehearse. ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ will be performed June 13th and 14th. Don’t miss it!

Happy Mothers’ Day! I hope you enjoyed our look back over the musical eras! Our Kinder and Primary pupils have worked incredibly hard, guided and supported by our ever-enthusiastic staff. Thank you for coming to enjoy such a special morning with us and to everyone for their efforts in making it such a success!

Next year we would like all parents to receive the newsletter electronically. This could either be via our MailChimp email or logging onto the parent area of our website. If you do not have any access to the internet, please let Gloria Sánchez know and we will provide an alternative option.

The IGCSE and AS exams started on Tuesday. It is very important that parents check each child’s individual timetable and ensure they are at school half an hour before the start of the exam. Cambridge University has very specific guidelines for these exams and when students arrive late, the consequences can be severe. Students must have written authorisation to leave school after their exams.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with the traffic system and the no parking zones. Just as a reminder, the system is in place in the morning, when dropping students off, as well as in the afternoon. Please do not park anywhere on the street outside school. If you have a meeting with VICTORIA teachers or must take care of any paperwork at the beginning or near the end of the school day, please enter our parking area. Thank you.

VICTORIA Community notices:

• We would appreciate your donation of newspaper, empty cereal boxes and art brushes. Students in Secondary and Prepa will be making Venetian masks during Something Different week at the end of June.

• We are asking for your support and help for children in need. There are children who require therapy and/or medication but do not have enough resources to pay for them. The costs vary depending on the child and Mrs Domínguez can give you more information regarding their medical background and diagnosis. • Energym, in Tequisquiapan, has sent a special offer for VICTORIA students and parents encouraging us all to participate in more physical activities and exercise. Tuesday was Mr Duncombe’s last day at VICTORIA. We were sad to see him go as were his students who gave him a heartfelt good-bye. María Cruz and Argel Martínez are in his place until the end of the year. Both are ex VICTORIA students and we are very happy to have them. María studied a degree in Education at the Universidad Panamericana and Argel finished his degree in Fine Arts and Design at the Universidad Autónoma in Queretaro. They will finish the school year and Mr Greenslade will be here in August to take over our Art Department.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Nos da mucho gusto compartir con ustedes que Uriel de Año 11 participó en las Olimpiadas Nacionales en Tijuana. Logró competir en las finales de natación 50 metros pecho y obtuvo una medalla de bronce. Es un resultado extraordinario y estamos muy orgullosos de tu logro. ¡Muy bien hecho, Uriel!

Felicitamos también a Héctor de Año 5 por leer las Efemérides durante los Honores a la Bandera. ¡Es muy grato ver la confianza con la que los alumnos de Primaria se dirigen a todos los estudiantes de la escuela!

¡Ya estamos ensayando para la obra de Primaria! Si su hijo o hija participa en esta obra, es muy importante que asistan a la escuela todos los días para ensayar. ‘Vamos a Cazar Osos’ se presentará el 13 y 14 de junio. ¡No se lo pierdan!

¡Feliz Día de Madres! Espero que hayan disfrutado de nuestra retrospectiva a las eras musicales. Los estudiantes de Kinder y Primaria trabajaron muchísimo, dirigidos, y con el apoyo de nuestro personal que siempre es tan entusiasta. Muchas gracias por venir y compartir esta mañana especial con nosotros y les agradecemos a todos por hacer de ella todo un éxito.

Los exámenes IGCSE y AS empezaron el martes. Es de suma importancia que revisen los horarios individuales y que se aseguren que sus hijos lleguen a la escuela media hora antes de que inicie el examen. La Universidad de Cambridge tiene lineamientos muy específicos para estos exámenes y en caso de que los alumnos lleguen tarde, las consecuencias pueden ser muy graves. Los alumnos deberán tener la autorización por escrito de salir de la escuela al terminar sus exámenes.

Les agradecemos mucho a todos su cooperación con el sistema de tránsito y por respetar las áreas de no estacionarse. Solo queremos recordarles que el sistema se implementa tanto en la mañana, al dejar a sus hijos, como en la tarde. Es importante que no se estacionen en ninguna parte en la calle afuera de la escuela. Si tienen una junta con maestros o tienen que hacer algún trámite al empezar o terminar el día escolar, por favor entre a nuestra área de estacionamiento. Gracias.

El martes fue el último día de Mr Duncombe en el colegio. Tanto a alumnos como a todo el personal, nos dio mucha tristeza despedirnos de él. María Cruz y Argel Martínez lo reemplazarán hasta el término del ciclo escolar, ambos ex alumnos del VICTORIA. Nos da mucho gusto tenerlos de nuevo en la escuela. María estudió una licenciatura en Pedagogía en la Universidad Panamericana y Argel terminó su licenciatura en Bellas Artes y Diseño en la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro. Estarán cubriendo las clases de arte lo que resta del año y Mr Greenslade se encargará del Departamento de Arte en agosto.

Dear Parents,

Thank you for letting us know that there was no word of the week in last week’s newsletter.  We were delighted to see how many parents are reading the newsletter and looking for it.  The word of the week is sorry!

Congratulations to David in year 7 for representing Querétaro and winning the National Tennis competition in Puebla last week. He competed in the Nationals representing his age group and came first. He is now in Tijuana at the National Olympics. So far so good, he has won his matches and we wish him the best of luck!! Well done, David.

Last Friday four bands entertained the audience in the Battle of the Bands. G3 received a certificate for Best New Act; Girls Don’t Cry – Best Girl Band; Dark White – Showmanship, and Legends – the Musicians Award. Congratulations to all the participants!

Year 1 went to Fantasía Acuática last week. They had a fantastic time playing on the Pirate Ship, swimming, making their own T-shirts and they even ventured onto some of the bigger slides. They learned to put up their own tents and to work together as a team. For most of them it was their first night away from home and their families. Well done year 1!

Year 8 had a great camp on Monday. They went abseiling, climbing and zip-lining their way around Aventura Park in San Joaquín. Thank you to all staff involved.

Well done to Octavio, year 5, who confidently addressed the whole school during flag ceremony on Monday to read the key historical dates of the week!

It was very, very wet on Tuesday afternoon and Primary students were ready for it! After ice lollipops, from the Parents’ Association, to celebrate Children’s Day, they threw themselves into a variety of water activities with great energy. Wet sponges, wet towels, water-filled balloons and a cup of water to carry on the head were just a few of the hazards overcome. Everybody seemed to be having a lot of fun and enjoying getting soaked! A huge THANK YOU to the teachers and assistants for their highly active, enthusiastic participation. I was exhausted just watching it all! There are colour photos available of the week’s events for those who receive the email version of this letter.

Miss Bull and I had an excellent time last week at the Latin American Head’s Conference where we focused on many areas of school development including professional learning communities, the use of technology in education and communication within organisations. We are very proud that VICTORIA has become a member of this association and we look forward to working closely with the British Latin American schools in the future. Our annual Primary Mothers’ Day concert is Friday 10^th May. We begin promptly at 8:30am and finish at 10am, at which time all children (Kinder to Prepa) may go home with their mums or leave on the school buses. Please bring or send your children in costume by 8am. I hope to see all our mums enjoying the concert.

Melissa, from year 7, has participated in several Girls and Boys in the Government activities. Last Tuesday, she was in charge of Human and Social Development. Part of her responsibility involved attending to those who required help or support and following up with phone calls in order to obtain the help needed.

We are pleased to announce that on Thursday 6^th June we will be hosting another Quiz night at Il Sapore restaurant. This event is just for adults and all proceeds will be going to the Tequisquiapan Orphanage. We will publish a time nearer the date. 

Important reminders:

• ·         School is closed on Monday 6^th May, for the public holiday.
• ·         The Early Development course will be on Tuesday 14th May at 4-8pm. Please contact Lety Ochoa for more information. 
• ·         On Tuesday 7^th May the Cambridge IGCSE and AS exams begin. Students have been issued with individual timetables so please check that the timetables are displayed in a prominent place (the fridge, the front door etc.) so no-one arrives late or misses an exam. Good luck to everyone.
• ·         My next parenting course is on Wednesday 8^th May at 1:45-3pm and it focuses on Personal Construct Psychology. 

Last but definitely not least, we sadly say good-bye to Mr. Duncombe who is leaving for Thailand next week. He came to VICTORIA four years ago and in that time he gave the school, our students and the VICTORIA community so much of his enthusiasm and hard work. We hope to see him come back to Tequisquiapan very soon! We wish you the best of luck in your new teaching position!

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Muchas gracias a todos por informarnos de que no se incluyó la palabra de la semana en la carta pasada. Nos da mucho gusto saber que los padres de familia leen la carta y están buscando la palabra de la semana. ¡La palabra de esta semana es perdón!

Muchas felicidades a David de Año 7 por representar a Querétaro y ganar en las Nacionales de Tenis en Puebla la semana pasada. Compitió en su categoría y obtuvo el primer lugar. Ahora se encuentra en las Olimpiadas Nacionales en Tijuana y hasta el momento ha ganado sus partidos. ¡Te deseamos mucha suerte David y muy bien hecho!

El viernes 26 cuatro bandas tocaron en la Batalla de las Bandas. El grupo G3 recibió un reconocimiento por ser el Mejor Grupo Nuevo; el grupo Girls Don’t Cry – Mejor Banda Femenil; Dark White – Mejor Espectáculo, y Legends – Premio Músicos. ¡Felicidades a todos los que participaron!

Año 1 acampó en Fantasía Acuática el jueves y viernes. Se divirtieron muchísimo en el Barco Pirata, nadaron, cada uno pintó su playera y hasta se aventuraron a las resbaladillas más grandes. Aprendieron a poner sus tiendas de campaña y trabajar en equipo.  Para la mayoría era la primera vez que no pasaban la noche en sus casas con sus familias. ¡Bien hecho Año 1!

Año 8 se fueron de campamento el lunes. En Aventura Park, San Joaquín, participaron en actividades de rappel, escalar montañas y de tirolesa. Muchas gracias a todo el personal por su apoyo.

Queremos felicitar a Octavio de Año 5 por dirigirse con tanta confianza el lunes a toda la escuela para leer las Efemérides de la semana durante los Honores a la Bandera.

¡La tarde del martes estuvo muy, pero muy mojada y los alumnos de Primaria estaban preparados! Después de haber terminado sus paletas de agua que la Asociación de Padres de Familia les regaló por el Día del Niño, se entregaron de lleno a la variedad de actividades de agua con gran energía. Esponjas empapadas, toallas mojadas, globos de agua y caminar con un vaso de agua sobre la cabeza fueron algunos de los peligros que tuvieron que enfrentar. ¡Al parecer, todos se divirtieron mucho con la mojada! Muchísimas gracias a los maestros y asistentes por la activa y entusiasta participación. Solo de verlos me sentí exhausta. Miss Bull y yo disfrutamos mucho de la Conferencia de Directores Latinoamericanos a la que asistimos. Se enfocó en varias áreas de desarrollo de las escuelas incluyendo las comunidades profesionales dedicadas a la enseñanza, el uso de la tecnología en la educación y la comunicación dentro de las organizaciones. Nos da mucho orgullo formar parte de esta asociación y esperemos poder trabajar muy de cerca con las escuelas Británicas y Latinoamericanas en el futuro. Nuestro concierto anual del Día de las Madres es el viernes 10 de mayo. Inicia a las 8:30 a.m. y termina a las 10 a.m., hora en la que se pueden ir los alumnos a sus casas con sus mamás o en los camiones escolares. Les pedimos que por favor estén sus hijos disfrazados a las 8 a.m. Espero ver a todas las mamás disfrutando del concierto.

Melissa, de Año 7, ha participado en varias actividades de Niñas y Niños en el Gobierno. El martes de esta semana estuvo a cargo del Desarrollo Humano y Social donde era su responsabilidad atender a las solicitudes de apoyo de las personas y realizar llamadas para obtener el apoyo requerido.

Nos da mucho gusto anunciar que el jueves 6 de junio se llevará a cabo otra Noche de Preguntas y Respuestas en Il Sapore. Este evento es para solo para adultos. El dinero que se recaude se  entregará a la Casa Hogar de Tequisquiapan. En cuanto se acerque la fecha les daremos la hora del evento. 

Recordatorios importantes:

• ·         No hay clases el lunes 6 de mayo por ser día festivo.
• ·         El curso de Estimulación Temprana es el martes 14 de mayo de 4 a 8 p.m. Favor de comunicarse con Lety Ochoa para más información.
• ·         El martes 7 de mayo empiezan los exámenes IGCSE y AS de Cambridge. A cada alumno se la ha entregado un horario individual por lo que les pedimos que lo coloquen en un lugar visible (en el refrigerador, en la puerta de entrada etc) para asegurar que nadie llegue tarde o se pierda un examen. ¡Suerte a todos!

Y por último pero no por eso menos importante, tristemente nos despedimos de Mr. Duncombe quien se va a Tailandia la próxima semana. Hace cuatro años llegó al VICTORIA y durante este tiempo, le dio a la escuela, a nuestros alumnos y a la comunidad su entusiasmo y excelente trabajo. ¡Esperamos verlo en Tequisquiapan muy pronto! Dear Parents,

Dr Tanner and Miss Bull are in Mexico City this week at the Latin American Heads Conference. This is an association of schools with a ‘British inspiration’ and the annual conference invites speakers from Great Britain. They are finding it very valuable, hope to be dining with the British Ambassador this evening and won’t be home again until late Saturday evening.

Noise, heat, dust, smoke, sparks, molten metal, huge machines and quality control by spectrometer! Not quite a typical IGCSE lesson but some of the things witnessed by the year 11 Design and Technology students on their visit to a foundry in La Tortuga last Friday. It was an excellent opportunity to experience real technology in action, from the age-old techniques of metal casting to the latest computer controlled machines and chemical analysis. Many thanks to Jorge Naveda and the factory workers who made the visit possible. Thanks also to Marisol and the students who took the dramatic photos for our email letter!

Last Friday the Baker Books catalogues went home with Friday letters. As some students have been collecting the leaflets this week, you may still buy books next Monday and Tuesday. The order will be closed on Tuesday 30^th April.

On Monday of this week, while students were enjoying a long weekend, teachers and assistants were hard at work. Meetings and workshops were arranged around subject areas, language teams and age-groups of students. I personally appreciated the mix of academic and practical activities which are so special to VICTORIA.

Then on Monday evening, a celebratory dinner was held in the restaurant Hacienda La Venta. This was for the Mexican students who have been granted scholarships to New York University Abu Dhabi. Natalia in year 13 was invited, along with her parents and Mrs Gilby. The other three students are from Greengates in Mexico City, JFK and Tec de Monterrey in Queretaro. We are very grateful to Evelyn, from NYU, for hosting this dinner party.

Dr Tanner’s next parenting course is on Wednesday 8th May at 1:45-3pm and focuses on Personal Construct Psychology. She will be looking at ways in which we can find out what our children are thinking and how we can support them to achieve their goals.

I wonder if you have your tickets for the musical event at 6:30pm this evening. Battle of the Bands is not Music Night nor is it a concert. Four bands are ‘battling’, before a specially selected panel of ‘experts’. There will be lots of constructive feedback.

Parents and students have been invited to the First Annual Training Day, organised by the CECATI, this Friday 26^th April at 9am-6pm in the main garden. If you would like information, please contact the CECATI directly at 414 273 1601 or 414 273 5722.

If you were unable to watch the play ‘Plato and the Universe’ in February, here’s your chance. There will be a presentation at Hotel Las Cavas in Tequisquiapan on Friday 26^th at 7pm. Six VICTORIA students are participating in the presentation and admission is free. It will be held at the Foro de Ecologia 2013.

If you have any furniture you would like to donate or sell, Miss Quesnel is very interested. Please contact her at 414 280 4010 after 4pm. She would like to sit down somewhere in her new home.

Important reminders:

• We are running a course on early childhood development on Thursday 14^th May from 4pm-8pm. If you would like more information about this course, please contact Lety Ochoa.

• If your child drives to and from school, please give Lety Ochoa a copy of their driving licence and vehicle insurance. Students on motorcycles should wear fastened helmets.

• School is closed on Wednesday 1st May, and again on Monday 6th, for the public holidays.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Esta semana, la Dra Tanner y Miss Bull viajaron a la Ciudad de México a la Conferencia de Directores Latinoamericanos. Esta asociación de colegios viene de una idea británica y para la conferencia anual se invita a ponentes de Gran Bretaña. Nos han platicado que ha sido de gran valor haber asistido, esperan cenar con el Embajador británico por la noche y no regresan hasta tarde el sábado.

¡Ruido, calor, polvo, humo, chispas, metal fundido, máquinas enormes y el control de calidad por medio de un espectrómetro! No es la típica descripción de una clase de IGCSE, pero si fueron algunas de las cosas que presenciaron los alumnos de Año 11 de Diseño y Tecnología cuando visitaron la fundidora en La Tortuga el viernes pasado. Fue la oportunidad perfecta para experimentar, desde la tecnología de antaño con la fundición de metales hasta lo último en el control de máquinas por computadora y el análisis químico. Le agradecemos mucho Jorge Naveda y a los trabajadores por habernos permitido la visita así mismo a Marisol y a los alumnos por las fotografías incluidas en la carta semanal por correo electrónico.

El viernes pasado se enviaron a casa los catálogos Baker Books con la carta semanal impresa. Durante la semana, algunos alumnos recogieron en Recepción sus catálogos por lo que todavía tienen la oportunidad de comprar libros el lunes y martes de la próxima semana. Se cierran pedidos el martes 30 de abril.

El lunes pasado, mientras los alumnos disfrutaban del puente, los maestros y asistentes se encontraban trabajando. Se organizaron juntas y talleres con temas específicos, equipos de idiomas y por edades de alumnos. Personalmente disfruté la combinación de actividades académicas y prácticas que hacen al VICTORIA un colegio tan especial.

Luego, ese mismo lunes por la noche, hubo una cena en el restaurant Hacienda La Venta. El  motivo de la cena era para celebrar a los alumnos mexicanos que recibieron becas por parte de la Universidad de Nueva York en Abu Dhabi. Natalia de Año 13 fue invitada junto con sus papás y Mrs. Gilby. Acudieron tres estudiantes más del Colegios Greengates de la Ciudad de México, del Colegio JFK y el Tec de Monterrey en Querétaro. Agradecemos mucho a Evelyn, quien organizó la cena por parte de la Universidad de Nueva York.

El siguiente curso para padres de Dra. Tanner es el miércoles 8 de mayo de 1:45-3p.m. Se enfocará a la Psicología de Constructos Personales. Les platicará de las formas en las que podemos conocer lo que piensan nuestros hijos y como apoyarlos a lograr sus metas.

¿Ya tienen sus boletos para el evento musical de esta noche a las 6:30 p.m.? La Batalla de las Bandas no es una Noche Musical ni es un concierto. Es una noche donde cuatro bandas se ‘enfrentan’ ante un panel de ‘expertos’. Habrá mucha retroalimentación positiva.

Se les invita a los padres de familia y a los alumnos a la 1^era Feria de Capacitación organizado por el CECATI este viernes 26 de abril de 9 a.m.-6 p.m. en el jardín principal. Si quieren de más información al respecto, comuníquense directamente al CECATI al 414 273 1601 ó 414 273 5722.

Si se perdieron la oportunidad de ver la obra ‘Platón y el Universo’ en febrero, ya tienen otra oportunidad. Hoy por la noche se presentará la obra en el Hotel Las Cavas en Tequisquiapan a las 7 p.m. Participan seis alumnos del VICTORIA y la entrada es libre en el Foro de Ecología 2013.

Si tienen muebles que quisieran donar o vender, a Miss Quesnel le interesa mucho. La pueden contactar al 414 280 4010 después de las 4 p.m. Sería para ella muy agradable poder tener algún mueble en donde sentarse en su nueva casa.

Dear Parents, 

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who had a brilliant camp last week. Thank you to everyone who helped with transport. They had a fantastic time at Fantasía Acuática swimming, painting caps and going on an exciting Scavenger Hunt. All the children were very well behaved and they were excellent at putting up tents!

Our Year 13 students had a very informative trip to the courthouse in San Juan del Río this week as part of their Law class. They listened to the proceedings of a car accident. Many thanks to Mr Garmendia for organising the visit and Mrs Clemens for accompanying them.

We would also like to thank Mónica Guerresi, teacher at the Tahuilco school, for coming in and sharing the ‘Palabrario’ she created, with our year 13 students. We really do enjoy sharing activities with other schools.

Thank you very much to the Hacienda Grande families who donated their time and money to improving one of our playground walls. We really appreciate your support and we have big plans for how we are going to use the wall!

The author, Francisco Hinojosa, has been cured of ‘Forgetitis’. We will even be able to send him some medication through DHL. Mission accomplished, VICTORIA! The demand to buy books was incredible and we soon sold out. For those students who were unable to buy books, Rulfo Bookstore has made the order. Once they arrive, we will send them via courier to Mr. Hinojosa for him to sign. Thank you so much for such enthusiastic support!

VICTORIA students certainly love books and reading! The word of the week is bookworm. The Baker Books catalogues come home this weekend giving you a long weekend to choose your books from England but only 4 days next week to place your orders with Lety in Reception.

There has been a change in our extracurricular timetable; the Knitting activity has been moved to Thursday from 3-4pm.

We have added some more documents to the Parent Area of the website which include information on how to talk to your children about drugs and developing emotional intelligence. I hope that you find this information useful and if you have any other requests for information on specific topics, please let me know.

As you know, we are constantly working to improve our traffic flow system at the beginning and the end of the day. So we are considering extending our transport network. If you would be interested in buses serving Ezequiel Montes, Viñedos, Haciendas de Tequisquiapan, Granjas, Club de Golf and areas of Tequisquiapan, please email Gloria Sánchez your family name and where you would want the drop off point to be (gsc.ibv@gmail.com).

Would you like to sponsor a child’s neurological treatment? We are inviting the VICTORIA community to help needy children so they can receive treatment here at school. They require help to pay for their therapy and/or medication (the cost varies depending on the child). • We are running a course on early childhood development on Thursday 16th May from 4pm-8pm. If you would like more information about this course, please contact Lety Ochoa. 
• No classes on Monday 22nd April as we have a staff training morning and Primary parent/teacher meetings from 12pm onwards. 
• On Wednesday 24th April, Miss Cheng will be running a parenting session called 'The Sleeping TV' in Spanish. This is a talk designed for all Primary parents and it will address the important issue of what our children watch on television and how much sleep they have. It will take place in room 1010 from 2pm-3pm. 
• On Thursday, 25th April, year 7 and 10 photos for Primary and Secondary certificates will be taken. Please ensure your child is present. Thank you. 
• Our Battle of the Bands is on Friday, 26th April, at 6:30pm! Tickets will be $10 pesos and can be bought from Wednesday 24th April with Lety Ochoa in Reception.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Muchas felicidades al grupo de Año 3 ya que gozaron de un excelente campamento la semana pasada. Muchas gracias a todos los que nos apoyaron con el transporte. Se la pasaron muy bien en Fantasía Acuática donde nadaron, pintaron cachuchas y se fueron a buscar tesoros perdidos. ¡Todos los alumnos se portaron muy bien y demostraron mucha habilidad al poner sus tiendas de campaña!

Nuestros alumnos de Año 13 realizaron una visita muy informativa a los juzgados de San Juan del Río esta semana como parte de su clase de Derecho. Estuvieron presentes durante la audiencia de un accidente automovilístico. Muchas gracias a Mr. Garmendia por organizar la visitar y a Mrs. Clemens por acompañarlos.

También debemos darle las gracias a la maestra Mónica Guerresi del Colegio Tahuilco por visitarnos y compartir el ‘Palabrario’ de su creación con los alumnos de Año 13. ¡Qué bonito es compartir con otras escuelas!

Muchas gracias a las familias de Hacienda Grande por donar su tiempo y dinero para mejorar los muros del patio. ¡Realmente agradecemos su apoyo ya que tenemos grandes planes para los muros!

Francisco Hinojosa quedó curado de la ‘Olvidaditis’. Incluso le mandaremos un poco de medicina a través de DHL. ¡Misión cumplida, VICTORIA! La demanda de libros fue tal que se nos terminaron. Para aquellos alumnos que no pudieron comprar libros, la Librería Rulfo levantó un pedido. En cuanto lleguen, se los enviaremos al Sr. Hinojosa para que los firme. ¡Muchas gracias por su entusiasta apoyo!

A nuestros alumnos les encanta leer y comprar libros! La palabra de la semana es ratón de biblioteca. Se envían los catálogos de Baker Books este viernes y podrán escoger sus libros, pero solo tendrán 4 días de la próxima semana para realizar su pedido con Lety en Recepción.

Hubo cambios en las actividades extracurriculares; la actividad de Tejido se movió a jueves de 3-4 p.m.

Se subieron otros documentos a la sección para padres de nuestra página web los cuales incluyen información de como platicar con sus hijos acerca de las drogas y el desarrollar la inteligencia emocional. Espero que consideren esta información útil y si requieren información con otros temas específicos, por favor háganmelo saber.

Como ya lo han de saber, continuamente estamos trabajando para mejorar el sistema de flujo de tráfico por la mañana y por la tarde. Por lo que estamos considerando extender nuestra red de transporte. • El miércoles 24 de abril, Miss Cheng estará a cargo de la sesión del curso para padres. El tema de esta sesión será ‘La TV que duerme’ y se impartirá en español. Esta plática está diseñada para los padres de Primaria y hablará de la importancia de conocer lo que ven nuestros hijos en la televisión y las horas que duermen. Se llevará a cabo en el salón 1010 de 2 a 3 p.m. 
• El jueves 25 de abril se tomarán las fotos de Años 7 y 10 para los certificados de Primaria y Secundaria. Asegúrense, por favor, que sus hijos no falten a la escuela. Gracias. 
• ¡Nuestra Batalla de las Bandas será el viernes 26 de abril a las 6:30 p.m.! Los boletos tendrán un costo de $10 y estarán a la venta a partir del miércoles 24 de abril con Lety Ochoa en Recepción.
