Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council: Ale Liz N. (year 10) President of the Student Council, Jorge N (year 10) Vice President, Mané M. (year 9) Secretary, Majo A. (year 10) Treasurer; and to our Parents’ Association: Gloria Castañón (President), Flavio Ramírez (Vice President), Araceli Cervantes (Secretary) and Marcela Camarena (Treasurer).  The PA organises our first event of the school year, the Convivio, this Saturday 1^st September at 12:30pm, where all families can get to know each other as well as our members of staff. Please remember to bring in a savoury or sweet dish to share and a big smile.

The Student Council are starting to organise events for our Noche Mexicana on Friday 14^th September. If you have anything you can donate as a prize for the Tombola they would be most grateful.

Please find our Extra-curricular Activities timetable attached to this newsletter. Activities run from 3pm to 4pm. So many of you have expressed regret at losing the 'Ginn' scheme that Mrs Nevett is running a Ginn activity! This will be during our big break on Tuesdays; students who are keen to continue the Ginn work should visit 310 between 12:10 and 12:40 to collect their reading books and homework.

Thanks to those of you who passed on information about a Music teacher for lower Primary classes. We are still receiving applications; we will be short-listing on Monday and carrying out interviews later on in the week.

All VICTORIA parents are cordially invited to participate in a ‘Storytelling’ course. It will run from 3- 4 pm every Tuesday from the 4^th September to 23^rd October. This is a great opportunity to become even better parents and enjoy reading.

In efforts to conserve natural resources, the school calendar will only be available on the school’s website www.victoriaschool.edu.mx  Please log on to the VICTORIA website and make a note of this year’s important dates and activities.  To access the parent area of the website, please email Jorge Cordova for a username and password at jcordova@bethics.com. The word of the week is integration.

A few reminders:

• Childrens’ National Identity Card (Cédula de Indentidad Personal): Parents who are going to sign the authorisation for their child’s ID card must send in a copy of their IFE and CURP by the 7^th September to Lety in Reception.
• On Saturday 8^th September, a number of our students will be giving a musical performance at the Cadereyta fair starting at 7pm, please come along and show your support.
• If you are happy to switch from receiving a paper copy of the newsletter to receiving an electronic version then please send an email to Gloria Sánchez at gsc.ibv@gmail.com with the following information:  family name, your name and your email address.
•  Please go to www.victoriaschool.edu.mx to vote for which 3^rd language you would like to see us offer at VICTORIA.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Felicidades a nuestro recién elegido Consejo Estudiantil: Ale Liz N. (Año 10) Presidente del Consejo Estudiantil, Jorge N (Año 10) Vice Presidente, Mané M. (Año 9) Secretaria, Majo A. (Año 10) Tesorera; y a nuestra Asociación de Padres de Familia: Gloria Castañón (President), Flavio Ramírez (Vice President), Araceli Cervantes (Secretaria) y Marcela Camarena (Tesorera). La APF organiza nuestro primer evento del año escolar, el Convivio, este sábado a las 12:30 p.m., donde todas las familias podrán hacer nuevas amistades además de conocer a los miembros de nuestro personal. Les recordamos que hay que traer un platillo salado o dulce para compartir y una sonrisa muy grande.

El Consejo Estudiantil empieza a organizar actividades para nuestra Noche Mexicana, que será el viernes 14 de septiembre. Si tienen algo que puedan donar para la Tómbola el Consejo estará muy agradecido.

Adjunto a esta Carta Semanal encontrarán el horario de las actividades extra-curriculares. Las actividades empiezan a las 3 y termina a las 4 pm. Muchos de ustedes expresaron tristeza al perder la actividad de Ginn, de tal forma que Mrs. Nevett decidió darla. Se llevará a cabo durante el descanso largo los martes; los estudiantes que estén interesados en continuar con el trabajo de Ginn, deberán visitar el salón 310 entre 12:10 y 12:40 para recoger sus libros de lectura y tareas.

Muchas gracias a todos que nos hicieron el favor de pasar la voz acerca del maestro de música para los grupos de Primaria. Seguimos recibiendo solicitudes; haremos una selección el lunes y realizaremos entrevistas durante la semana.

Todos los padres de familia de la comunidad VICTORIA, están cordialmente invitados a participar en el curso "Cuentacuentos". Serán ocho sesiones, de 3:00 a 4:00 los martes, iniciamos el próximo 4 de septiembre y finalizará el 23 de octubre. ¡Anímense, es una excelente oportunidad para ser mejores padres y disfrutar la lectura!

Como ya han de saber, hemos introducido un nuevo programa de lectura en Kinder y Primaria. Algunos recordatorios:

• Cédula de Identidad Personal: Los padres que firmarán la autorización para esta credencial deberán enviar una copia de su IFE y CURP antes del 7 de septiembre a Lety en Recepción. 
• El sábado 8 de septiembre varios de nuestros alumnos se presentarán en la feria de Cadereyta a partir de las 7 p.m. Por favor vayan a la feria y apoyen a nuestros estudiantes.
• Si prefieren recibir la versión electrónica de la Carta Semanal, por favor envíen un correo a Gloria Sánchez gsc.ibv@gmail.com con la siguiente información: nombre de la familia, nombre del padre de familia y su correo electrónico.

Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone had a great summer and a well-deserved rest. I wonder how many of you watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. I thought that it was a neat potted history of Britain with a peep at famous children’s literature. Our Primary students will have found it very different from their event at the end of last term and may like to watch it if they missed the July broadcast.

We’ve had a tremendous start to the academic year with a student body of 400 and 9 new members of staff; we have so much good news to report that I don’t know where to start!

All of our students successfully passed their Cambridge exams. Congratulations! A special well done to Rodrigo Torres Saavedra and Ma. Del Rosario Ugalde Calixto who achieved outstanding results due to their hard work and dedication. Rodrigo passed 9 IGCSE exams with an A* in every subject. This is the first time one of our students has ever achieved such amazing results.

Well done to Mariano Favela Correa (year 3), Santiago Favela Correa (year 2) and Rafael Hernandez Reynoso (year 6) who play American Football for the San Juan Crows in the Tiny Tot category of the OFACEMAC league (24 teams based in central and south Mexico). The San Juan Crows played an unbeaten season and won the title in the final against the Trojans from Leon 44-8!

A huge thank you to all the parents who have supported us with the construction of the road. A special thank you to the Kawagi Marón family, Infante Ruíz family, García Moreno family, González Gasca family, Villamil Cadena family, the Nevetts and all the Ejido Hacienda Grande families for their donations of money, time and materials!

As part of our 20^th year celebrations we have a special ‘VICTORIA Retrospective’ display of photographs from the last 20 years. The theme this month is Back to School; do you have any pictures of your child’s first days at VICTORIA? I am sure that most families will have some to send for the Independence Celebrations theme in September! Please write your family name on any photographs you can lend, and send to Lety for the display.

Our teachers very often take photos of pupils carrying out different activities and they sometimes appear on our Facebook page. If you do not want your child to appear on Facebook or any of our school advertising, contact Lety in Reception.

I hope you have noticed we have a new poll on our website. We would like your opinions about which 3^rd language VICTORIA should offer in the future. Please go to www.victoriaschool.edu.mx to register your vote. The word of the week is progress.

We have now developed the system of emailing the newsletter to many parents. These parents often receive the letter earlier than most and of course it saves paper. If you are happy to switch from receiving a paper copy to receiving an electronic version every Friday then please send an email to Gloria Sánchez at gsc.ibv@gmail.com with the following information: 1) family name 2) your name and 3) email address. We will also continue to publish the newsletter on our website.

From Saturday 1^st September until Sunday 9^th September, we will be publicising VICTORIA at the Cadereyta fair between 4 and 8pm. On Saturday 8^th September, a number of our students will be giving a musical performance at 7pm, please come along and show your support.

Our extra-curricular activities timetable will be published next week and activities begin on Monday 3^rd September.  Miss Bull and Miss O’Reilly plan to run a swimming activity on Mondays for years 4, 5 and 6. They will take the students to La Vega after school and then parents would collect their children from La Vega at 4pm. If your child would be interested in this activity, could you please write a note in their diary over the weekend so that on Monday we have an idea of numbers.

For those parents who are interested in taking English classes or continuing their course, classes start the same week as our extra-curricular activities. Please contact Gloria Sánchez in Reception at gsc.ibv@gmail.com for details about costs, the schedule and to sign up for the group. The group is limited to 6 parents per group, so please let Gloria S. know you would like to sign up.

This year we will be running a Homework Club from 3-4pm every day after school including Fridays for our Secondary and Prepa students.  Any pupil may choose to use this as an opportunity to stay and get their homework done before going home, but we will also request that some pupils stay the next day for Homework Club if they have not completed their homework. You will receive a letter to notify you of this. Please support your children with their time management of their homework to avoid the inconvenience of you having to come and collect your child at 4pm. If you feel that your child struggles with any aspect of their homework (time management, understanding the work, etc.,) then it would be a good idea for them to come to Homework Club on a regular basis rather than waiting for them to miss a deadline and then have to attend.

A few reminders:

• School ID cards: Cost - $50.00 pesos. Students will have their photos taken on Thursday, 30^th August. Please send the money to cover the cost to Lety in Reception. IMPORTANT: Students must wear light coloured shirts, T-shirts or blouses for the photo-shoot on Thursday.
• If you would like access to the parent area of the website, please email Jorge Cordova for a username and password – jcordova@bethics.com.  This term’s calendar will soon be available to download.
• Please remember that our traffic flow system is one way. Please find a map attached to the newsletter.

CARTA SEMANAL No. 767

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Espero que todos hayan tenido unas muy buenas vacaciones y un descanso muy merecido. No se cuántos de ustedes hayan visto la Ceremonia de Inauguración de las Olimpiadas, y pienso que fue un cuadro muy bien pensado de la historia de Inglaterra y un vistazo a la literatura infantil más famosa. Los alumnos de Primaria podrían pensar que fue algo muy diferente al evento que organizaron a fin del año escolar y tal vez les gustaría verlo si es que se lo perdieron.

El año escolar empezó muy bien con 400 alumnos y 9 miembros de staff nuevos; tenemos tantas buenas noticias que no se donde empezar.

Todos nuestros estudiantes pasaron sus exámenes de Cambridge. ¡Muchas felicidades! Una felicitación especial a Rodrigo Torres Saavedra y Ma. Del Rosario Ugalde Calixto quienes obtuvieron excelentes resultados gracias a su gran trabajo y dedicación. Rodrigo pasó todos sus exámenes y obtuvo un A* en cada materia. Es la primera vez que uno de nuestros alumnos logra resultados tan extraordinarios.

También queremos felicitar a Mariano Favela Correa (año 3), Santiago Favela Correa (año 2) y Rafael Hernández Reynoso (año 6) quienes juegan fútbol americano con los Cuervos de San Juan en la categoría Infantil de la liga OFACEMAC (24 equipos del centro y sur del país). Durante la temporada, estuvieron invictos y ganaron la final en contra de los Troyanos de León 44-8.

Muchas gracias a todos los padres de familia que nos apoyaron con la construcción de la calle. Un agradecimiento especial a las familias Kawagi Marón, Infante Ruíz, García Moreno, González Gasca, Villamil Cadena, los Nevett y a todas las familias del Ejido Hacienda Grande por sus donaciones de dinero, tiempo y materiales.

Como parte del festejo por nuestro 20° Aniversario, tenemos una exhibición especial, ‘Retrospectiva VICTORIA’ de los últimos 20 años del colegio. El tema es el Regreso a Clases. ¿Tendrán fotografías de sus hijos de sus primeros días en el VICTORIA? Estoy segura que la mayoría de ustedes podrán enviar fotos para el tema de la Independencia en septiembre. Por favor escriban sus nombres en la parte de atrás de cualquier fotografía que nos puedan prestar y déjenlos en Recepción con Lety para la exhibición.

Muchas veces, nuestros maestros toman fotos de los estudiantes cuando están participando o llevando a cabo diferentes actividades y luego los suben a la página de la escuela en Facebook. Si prefieren que sus hijos no aparezcan en la página o en la publicidad de la escuela, contacten a Lety en Recepción.

Espero que todos hayan visto la encuesta que tenemos en nuestro sitio web. Nos gustaría que nos den su opinión acerca del tercer idioma que debamos ofrecer en VICTORIA en el futuro. Visiten www.victoriaschool.edu.mx para registrar su voto. La palabra de la semana es progreso.

Hemos implementado un sistema para enviarles la Carta Semanal por correo. Frecuentemente les llega la carta más rápido a estos padres de familia y desde luego, es un ahorro de papel. Si les gustaría recibir la carta de manera electrónica cada viernes en lugar de recibir la versión impresa, favor de enviar un correo a Gloria Sánchez gsc.ibv@gmail.com con la siguiente información: 1) nombre de la familia 2) su nombre y 3) su correo electrónico. Seguiremos publicando la carta en nuestro sitio web.

Del sábado 1 al 9 de septiembre, estaremos presentes en la Feria de Cadereyta promocionando al VICTORIA entre 4 y 8 de la tarde. El sábado 8 de septiembre, varios de nuestros alumnos estarán presentando un número musical a las 7 p.m., por favor vengan a disfrutar de la música y dar su apoyo a nuestros estudiantes.

El horario de las actividades extracurriculares se publicará la próxima semana y las actividades iniciarán el lunes 3 de septiembre. Miss Bull y Miss O’Reilly planean organizar una actividad de natación los días lunes para años 4, 5 y 6. Llevarán a los niños a La Vega después de clases y los papás los podrán recoger en La Vega a las 4 p.m. Si su hijo está interesado en participar en esta actividad, por favor escriban una nota en el diario durante el fin de semana para que el lunes podamos tener una idea de cuantos niños quisieran participar.

Para aquellos padres de familia que están interesados en tomar clases de inglés o continuar con su curso, las clases inician la misma semana que las actividades extracurriculares. Por favor contacten a Gloria Sánchez en Recepción o envíen un correo a gsc.ibv@gmail.com para más información acerca de costos, el horario e inscribirse al grupo. El grupo tiene un cupo de 6 alumnos por lo que sería importante que se apunten lo más pronto posible.

Este año tendremos un Club de Tareas para nuestros estudiantes en Secundaria y Prepa 3 a 4 p.m. todos los días incluyendo los viernes. Los alumnos podrán tomar esta oportunidad para quedarse y hacer tareas antes de irse a casa, pero también les pediremos a los estudiantes que se queden al día siguiente cuando no hayan hecho su tarea. Se les avisará por medio de una carta de esta situación. Por favor apoyen a sus hijos con el manejo de su tiempo y las tareas para evitar tener que recoger a su hijo a las 4 p.m. Si sienten que su hijo o hija tiene dificultades con cualquier aspecto de su tarea (manejo de tiempo, comprender lo que hay que hacer, etc) entonces sería recomendable que se queden al Club de Tareas regularmente en lugar de esperar que no entreguen una tarea y que se tengan que quedar.

Los recordatorios:

• Credenciales Escolares: Costo - $50.00 pesos. Las fotografías se tomarán el jueves 30 de agosto. Por favor envíen el dinero de la credencial a Lety en Recepción. IMPORTANTE: Los alumnos deberán traer camisa, playera o blusa de color claro el día de la toma de la fotográfica.Si quieren entrar a la sección de padres de familia en nuestro sitio web, envíen un correo a Jorge Córdova y soliciten su nombre de usuario y contraseña– jcordova@bethics.com.  El calendario para el periodo pronto estará disponible para descargar.
• Recuerden que la calle enfrente de la escuela es un solo sentido. Adjunto a la carta se incluye un mapa.
