Dear Parents,

It´s been a short week but full of parties, celebrations and wonderful news. We have a lot to be thankful for…

Congratulations to Natalia C in year 13 who has been offered a place at The New York Univeristy in Abu Dhabi for August 2013 to study biochemistry, which is as you know a very generous offer! Well done, Natalia, we are very proud of you!

A special thank you to Gaby Hernández for coming in last Friday and working with the students in year 3. She spoke to them about how they could improve their eating habits and they prepared a healthy snack decorating the dish with a face using the three food groups. Everything was fantastic; year 3 was thrilled with the different ways they could prepare their healthy snack.

Thank you so much to the Ejido Hacienda Grande families for throwing us a wonderful posada on Monday evening.  The food, music and great company were enjoyed by all. We look forward to this event every year and yet again we were overwhelmed by your kindness and generousity. Thank you for such a special evening!

We are very grateful to our Parent´s Association for organising our whole school posada on Tuesday evening. We had a great turn out. What a lovely way to end the term! A big thank you to Isabella’s mum for bringing the baby lambs for our Nativity scene and to Sergio’s mum for providing all the hay.

Thank you very much to those of you who have donated Three Kings gifts for the Orphanage.  School will be open on Thursday 20^th December if you would like to leave a gift but haven´t yet done so.  Lety Ochoa has the list of what has already been purchased.

We are sad to be saying goodbye to Mr Cruz (Primary Music Teacher), Amanda (Teaching Assistant) and James (Teaching Assistant) and we would like to thank them for their hard work with us this term and wish them luck for the future! Mr Gomez will be teaching music in both lower and upper Primary from January onwards.

Our cricketers had an excellent trip to El Salvador where they played four games and won two of them. Well done! The word of the week is yuletide.

I have noticed that sometimes our primary students struggle to carry their big back packs and rely on parental help at the end of the school day.  We would like to encourage our pupils to be as independent as possible by packing up their bags properly at the end of the day and carrying their own belongings. Please make sure that your child is able to carry their own bag by checking that the size and weight are manageable.

I would like to remind you all that on Thursday 24^th January we will hold an Open Day at VICTORIA, with the following events:

• 9am-10am: Developing emotional intelligence in our children
• 10:30am-12:00pm: Why VICTORIA?
• 12:00pm-2:30pm Tours of the school and classroom observations and activities

We hope that you enjoyed our Christmas concert as much as we enjoyed practising and preparing for you.  Well done to all our pupils and staff for working so hard and giving such a great performance!

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Ha sido una semana corta llena de fiestas y celebraciones además de mucho por lo cual hay que estar agradecidos.

Felicidades a Natalia C de Año 13 ya que se le ofreció admisión en la Universidad de Nueva York Abu Dhabi para estudiar la carrera de Bioquímica en agosto del 2013. Este es un ofrecimiento muy generoso. ¡Bien hecho, Natalia, estamos muy orgullosos de ti!

Le damos las gracias a Gaby Hernández por venir el pasado viernes a trabajar con los niños de año 3. Ella les habló sobre cómo pueden mejorar sus hábitos alimenticios, también prepararon un refrigerio saludable y divertido, decorando una carita con alimentos de los tres grupos. Todo estuvo fantástico, Año 3 quedó maravillado de ver que hay diversas maneras de preparar un refrigerio y sobre todo saludable.

Les damos las gracias a las familias del Ejido Hacienda Grande por organizar una posada tan hermosa el lunes por la noche. Todos gozamos de la comida, música y la buena compañía. Cada año esperamos que llegue este evento y de nuevo nos sentimos maravillados por su amabilidad y generosidad. ¡Muchísimas gracias por ofrecernos una celebración tan especial!

Agradecemos mucho a la Asociación de Padres de Familia por organizar la maravillosa posada para toda la comunidad VICTORIA el martes. Hubo muy buena asistencia. ¡Qué excelente manera de terminar el año! Un agradecimiento muy grande a la mamá de Isabella por prestarnos los borreguitos para nuestro nacimiento y a la mamá de Sergio por traer las pacas de paja.

A todos las familias que hayan donado regalos para la Casa Hogar y el Día de Reyes, muchas gracias. La escuela estará abierta el jueves 20 de diciembre en caso de que quieran traer algún regalo. Lety Ochoa tiene la lista de los artículos que ya se han donado y las cosas que aún faltan.

Nos da mucha tristeza despedirnos de Mr Cruz (maestro de Música en Primaria), Amanda (Asistente) y James (Asistente) y les damos las gracias por todo su trabajo durante este periodo, deseándoles mucha suerte en el futuro. Mr Gómez se encargará de impartir las clases en toda Primaria a partir de enero.

Nuestros jugadores de cricket tuvieron un excelente viaje a El Salvador y jugaron 4 partidos de los cuales ganaron 2. ¡Excelente! La palabra de la semana es navideña.

En ocasiones he observado que nuestros estudiantes de Primaria se esfuerzan por cargar sus mochilas y requieren de la ayuda de sus padres al final del día. Buscamos que nuestros alumnos sean lo más independientes posibles promoviendo que empaquen su mochila adecuadamente al terminar el día y que carguen sus cosas. Es importante que se aseguren que sus hijos puedan cargar sus mochilas al revisar que esta sea de un tamaño y peso manejable.

Les recuerdo que el jueves 24 de enero tendremos un Día Abierto y habrá los siguientes eventos:

• 9 a.m.-10 a.m.: El Desarrollo de la Inteligencia Emocional.
• 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: ¿Por qué el VICTORIA?
• 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: Visitas guiadas de la escuela y observar los salones y sus actividades.

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to José Juan in year 13 and Rodrigo in year 12 who successfully completed the Hacienda Grande 10km run with Mr Hiley on Wednesday.  We are very proud of your Running Club achievements!

I would also like to congratulate Mariana in year 10 for winning the anti-bullying poster competition. It is now on the school website for all to see.

Our teachers had a very productive training morning on Tuesday.  A whole range of themes were addressed including dynamic assessment, marking guidelines, Read Write Inc Spelling and peer observation.

This week the VICTORIA Board of Directors had their third meeting of the academic year where we planned future construction and discussed the immense progress that VICTORIA is making.

Most of you will remember the wonderful surprises that we gave the children at the orphanage last Three Kings Day. We plan to do the same this year and we have attached a list of the children´s wishes. If you would like to contribute to this scheme by buying a present and leaving it in our Reception with Lety Ochoa before the end of term, we would be very grateful. Thank you!

Every Christmas, Mrs. Edna Gilby donates children’s sweaters which she knits throughout the year. If you would like to buy any of these beautiful sweaters, please contact Gloria Pagés in our Administration office. All funds will go to the Tequisquiapan orphange.

On Thursday 24^th January we will hold an Open Day at VICTORIA, with the following events:

On Tuesday 18^th December, the PA invites you our traditional posada which starts at 6pm. It is a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time together as a community. Remember that every year we put a note in your children’s diaries for families to bring in a savoury or sweet dish to share.

You will see a wealth of Christmas displays when you come to the concert on Wednesday. There are also several beautiful trees in classrooms; I especially like the ones with decorations which the students made. There are some photographs in the email version of the letter. We also hope to see you all at our Christmas concert on Wednesday 19^th December, which starts at 9am. It will last approximately 90 minutes and then our students will be free to go home.

Congratulations to all of you who noticed that the word of the week was missing, last week. I did put it in but it was accidentally removed! This reminds me to tell you about the diary I saw, where the word is always written in both English and Spanish. What a simple way to learn what are mostly abstract pronouns.

Although it is the Christmas holidays soon and we wish everyone a well-deserved rest, it is important that our years 11 and 13 students spend time revising for their mock International Cambridge exams in January. The results of these exams will give our students a clear picture of how they are doing and what they need to focus on to get the results that they wish to achieve in the summer IGCSE/AS/A-Level exams.

Important dates to remember:

•  Tuesday 18^th December – Posada 6pm
• Wednesday 19 December – Christmas Concert 9am
• Monday 7^th January, 2013 – First day of classes

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Muchas felicidades a José Juan de Año 13 y Rodrigo en Año 12 quienes terminaron la carrera de 10 km a Hacienda Grande con Mr Hiley el miércoles. ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de todos sus logros en el Club de Carreras!

También quiero felicitar a Mariana de Año 10 por ser la ganadora de la competencia de carteles Anti-acoso Escolar. Ya lo pueden ver en el sitio web de la escuela.

Nuestros maestros tuvieron una mañana de capacitación muy productiva el martes. Se discutieron varios temas incluyendo la evaluación dinámica, lineamientos para calificar a los alumnos, la ortografía del programa Read Write Inc y las observaciones por parte de colegas.

Esta semana en VICTORIA, la Junta Directiva tuvo se reunión por tercera ocasión en este ciclo escolar donde planeamos futuras construcciones y discutimos el inmenso progreso que estamos logrando.

Muchos de ustedes han de recordar todas las sorpresas que entregamos a la Casa Hogar para el Día de Reyes. Planeamos repetirlo y anexamos una lista de algunos de los deseos que tienen los niños. Si quieren contribuir con esta esquema comprando un regalo y dejarlo en la Recepción con Lety Ochoa antes de que termine el periodo, estaríamos muy agradecidos.

Cada Navidad, Mrs. Edna Gilby dona suéteres para niños pequeños que ella misma teje durante el año. Si les interesa comprar uno de estos bellísimos suéteres, por favor comuníquense con Gloria Pagés en nuestras oficinas administrativas. El dinero reunido se entregará a la Casa Hogar de Tequisquiapan.

El jueves 24 de enero llevaremos a cabo el Día Abierto en VICTORIA con los siguientes eventos:

El martes 18 de diciembre la APF los invita a nuestra tradicional posada que comienza a las 6 p.m. Esta es una excelente oportunidad para convivir como comunidad. Recuerden que cada año les enviamos una notita en el diario de sus hijos con el fin de que traigan algo dulce o salado para compartir.

El miércoles que acudan al concierto podrán ver varias exhibiciones navideñas. Tenemos varios árboles de navidad en los salones y mis preferidos son aquellos con decoraciones hechos por los niños. Podrán ver algunas fotografías en la versión enviada por correo electrónico. El concierto empezará a las 9 a.m. en punto y durará 90 minutos aproximadamente y los estudiantes se podrán ir a sus casas inmediatamente al terminar.

Felicidades a todos los que la semana pasada se dieron cuenta que había faltado poner la palabra de la semana. Si lo había incluido pero accidentalmente fue eliminado. Esto me trae a la mente un diario que vi, la palabra de la semana la anotaron en inglés y español, una forma muy sencilla para aprender lo que son principalmente sustantivos abstractos.

Aunque pronto serán las vacaciones de navidad, les deseamos a todos un descanso muy merecido. Es importante que nuestros estudiantes de Años 11 y 13 ocupen este tiempo para repasar ya que en enero presentarán sus exámenes Internacionales mock de Cambridge. Los resultados de estos exámenes les dará a los alumnos una idea más clara de lo que están haciendo y en lo que deben enfocarse para lograr los resultados deseados en los exámenes IGCSE/AS/A-Level en el verano.

Dear Parents, 

Congratulations to Alexa A., Carlos C, Alfonso M., Eduardo A. and Jimena C. from yr 6 who participated in the Science and Technology fair at the CDC last Friday. They received recognition for their experiment to investigate the effects of passive smoking. Well done!

Thank you to all of you who came to our Big Draw, and of course to Mr Duncombe for organising the hugely successful event. The range of artwork was truly impressive and it was a joy to see so many of you appreciating our students’ talents.

A big thank you to Rosa Isela Cruz for making and donating a blind for my office. I really appreciate it!

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the Quiz on Tuesday evening to raise money for the Cricket trip next week. What a great night! Mr Gregory did an outstanding job in preparing and running the quiz and the Il Sapore staff were tremendous hosts. Thank you!

I’m sure that you enjoyed our Library Night as much as I did. Many thanks to all those who made this event a great success: Gloria Castañón and the PA, Mrs. Monjaraz, Ms Wrigley, Ms Doherty, Mrs. Gilby, Mr. Murphy, Mrs. Clemens and Claudia Cervantes. Also a special thank you to Armando Zamorano and Jon Bonfiglio for judging the poetry and drama competition and to all the story tellers. It was so nice to see Primary children in their pyjamas ready for the stories. I saw several of you looking at the retrospective photos last night. Please remember to send in any you have of past years’ Christmas events.

The Baker Books order was delivered this week, so our students have lots of beautiful books to read! We would like to thank Claudia Ruiz, who helped us with this book order, for all her hard work and patience. Also to Luis Sanson for his helpful suggestions and cooperation.

Today yr 11 & 12 went to the Old People’s home in Tequisquiapan to take gifts, prepare breakfast and entertain the residents with Christmas songs. Thank you to Mrs. Pruneda for organizing this event and to Mr. Nevett, Mr. Duncombe, Miss Wadsley and Mrs. Gilby for accompanying us. I was proud to see our students interact with the residents.

Christmas came early for Mrs Nevett, when a bag of Seville oranges was left in her room! She says thank you very much and invites the 'helper' to come and carry a jar of orange marmalade back to Santa.

This week some of the yr 13 students took the Anahuac University entrance exam. Representatives from the University came to apply the exams in VICTORIA as part of our agreement with the university.

On Tuesday Secondary students were issued their reports. Could you please ensure that you return the signed reports to school along with the appointment slip as soon as possible?

Football news: On Monday our Upper Primary students had a great game against the Querenda and although they lost, the atmosphere was excellent and our pupils came away motivated for their next game. On Tuesday our Secondary girls played a match in Cadereyta. They played Prepa girls and demonstrated their enthusiasm for the game no matter what the odds.

The squirrel phonics group heard that this week was the 20th anniversary of the first text message. They investigated a cel-phone keyboard and numbered the letters according to their place on the key. They were delighted to discover that the word VICTORIA gave a total of twenty, as the school is also in its 20th year!

On Wednesday 23rd January, we will be holding a promotional event in Cadereyta to which everyone is invited, present and future parents who are interested in sending their children to VICTORIA. On Thursday 24th January we will have an Open Day so that everyone has the chance to see for themselves how we work at VICTORIA. The day will include a variety of events to which all are welcome. You can pick and choose what interests you. Please let Lety Ochoa know if you would like us to send personal invitations to anyone that you know is interested.

We are collecting blankets for the DIF’s ‘Cobijando Corazones’ programme. Please leave them with Lety or Gloria S. in Reception and someone will be coming from the DIF on Friday 14th December to collect them. Thank you!

We would like to invite the VICTORIA community to the Centro Cultural piano concert at the Club de Leones on Thursday 13th December where some of our students will be playing.

A reminder to all parents, please fill out the contact information slips we sent out this week and return them with your children. It is very important for the school to know where we can find you in case of an emergency. 

The following activities will not be running next week: German (Monday and Wednesady), Englisgh with Mrs. Gilby (Monday), Typing (Thursday), Lego Club (Wednesday), English with Miss Beaty (Thursday) and Rugby (Wednesday).

Dr Tanner would like to invite parents from year 11 to a meeting Wednesday 12th at 2:30pm. It is important that you attend. Thank you.

Les agradecemos a todos los que acudieron a nuestra exhibición del Big Draw, y por supuesto a Mr Duncombe por organizar un evento tan exitoso. La gama de trabajos de arte era en verdad impresionante y fue una alegría ver a tantos de ustedes disfrutando de los talentos de nuestros estudiantes.

Muchas gracias a Rosa Isela Cruz por hacer y donar una persiana por mi oficina. ¡Realmente se los agradezco!

Muchas gracias a todos los que participaron en el concurso de Preguntas y Respuestas el martes por la noche con el fin de recaudar fondos para el viaje de cricket la semana próxima. ¡Fue una gran velada! Mr. Gregory hizo un trabajo excepcional en la preparación y organización del concurso y el personal de Il Sapore fueron excelentes anfitriones. ¡Gracias!

Estoy segura que disfrutaron de nuestra Noche de Biblioteca tanto como yo. Muchas gracias a todos los que hicieron que este evento fuera tan exitoso: Gloria Castañón y la APF, Mrs Monjaraz, Ms Wrigley, Ms Doherty, Mrs Gilby, Mr. Murphy, Mrs Clemens y Claudia Cervantes. ¡El pedido de Baker Books fue entregado esta semana, por lo que nuestros estudiantes tienen varios de libros hermosos que pueden leer! Quisiéramos agradecerle a Claudia Ruíz, quien nos ayudó con este pedido de libros, por todo su esfuerzo y paciencia. También a Luis Sanson por sus buenas sugerencias y cooperación.

Hoy Año 11 y 12 fueron al asilo en Tequisquiapan a llevar regalos, a prepararles el desayuno y a cantar canciones de Navidad a sus los residentes. Gracias a Mrs. Pruneda por organizar esta visita y a Mr. Nevett, Mr. Duncombe, Ms. Wadsley y Mrs. Gilby por acompañarnos. Estoy orgullosa de haber visto a los alumnos interactuar con los residentes.

¡La Navidad llegó temprano para Mrs. Nevett, al encontrar una bolsa de las naranjas de Sevilla en su salón! Ella está muy agradecida y quisiera invitar al 'ayudante' de Santa para que le pueda llevar un poco de mermelada de naranja de regreso a Santa.

Esta semana algunos de los alumnos de Año 13 presentaron el examen de admisión de la Universidad Anáhuac. Los representantes de la Universidad vinieron a aplicar el examen en VICTORIA como parte de nuestro acuerdo.

El martes de esta semana se entregaran a los alumnos de Secundaria sus reportes. ¿Podrían por favor asegurarse de regresar los reportes firmados a la escuela junto con la hoja de la citas lo más pronto posible?

Noticias de fútbol: El lunes nuestros jugadores mayores de Primaria jugaron un gran partido en contra del Querenda y aunque perdieron, el ambiente estuvo excelente y nuestros alumnos terminaron motivados para su siguiente juego. El martes nuestras jugadoras de Secundaria tuvieron un partido en Cadereyta. Jugaron en contra de jóvenes de Prepa y demostraron su entusiasmo por el juego sin importarles las desventajas que presentaban.

El grupo Squirrel de phonics se enteró que esta semana es el vigésimo aniversario del primer mensaje del texto. Investigaron el teclado de un teléfono celular y numeraron las letras de acuerdo a su posición en el teclado. ¡Estuvieron encantados al descubrir que la palabra VICTORIA da un total de veinte, de la misma manera en que la escuela se encuentra en su vigésimo año!

El miércoles 23 de enero llevaremos a cabo un evento promocional en Cadereyta a la cual todos están invitados, padres de familia que ya son parte de nuestra comunidad y padres que están interesados en el VICTORIA para sus hijos. El jueves 24 de enero llevaremos a cabo el mismo evento promocional en VICTORIA seguido por un Día Abierto de modo que todos tenga la oportunidad de ver por sí mismos cómo trabajamos en la escuela. El día incluirá una variedad de eventos a los cuales todos son bienvenidos. Pueden escoger y elegir lo que más les interesa. Si saben de alguien que le interese asistir a estas pláticas, por favor comuníquense con Lety Ochoa para que les enviemos invitaciones personales a sus conocidos.

Quisiéramos invitar a toda la comunidad de VICTORIA al concierto de piano del Centro Cultural en el Club de Leones el jueves 13 diciembre donde algunos de nuestros estudiantes participarán.

Les recordamos a todos los padres de familia que por favor llenen los formatos con su información de contacto que enviamos a casa esta semana y lo regresen a la escuela con sus hijos. Es muy importante que tengamos la información de dónde podemos encontrarlos en caso de una emergencia. 

Las siguientes actividades extra-curriculares se cancelan la próxima semana: Alemán (lunes y miércoles), Inglés con Mrs. Gilby (lunes), Mecanografía (jueves), Lego Club (miércoles), Inglés con Miss Beaty (jueves) y Rugby (miércoles).

Dear Parents, 

Over the past couple of weeks, as well as receiving workshops from me, our students have been involved in a wide variety of classroom and outdoor activities which focused on promoting empathy and friendship. Please find a full report of our anti-bullying week activities attached to this newsletter.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Big Run. A grand total of all the events: $35,000 pesos, was raised for the cricketers!

We would like to wish Natalia C. in year 13 a great trip to Abu Dhabi on her candidates visit.

In commemoration of the Mexican Revolution, 20th November, we hosted the Marinos Marching Band from the Latinoamericano School in Querétaro accompanied by Comander Gerardo García Flores who reminded us of our civic responsibility to stop the violence we are experiencing in Mexico.

Thank you very much to our Hacienda Grande families who paid to have a seating area built around the mesquite tree in the Kinder garden and thank you to our Parent’s Association who have donated $5000 towards the building of our drive. We are making incredible progress with developing the school grounds, thanks to everyone’s support!

We are very proud to announce that the United Kingdom’s educational system was ranked 6th best in the world by Pearson’s global league table. We work hard in VICTORIA to implement the British system alongside the Mexican system and it is reassuring to see that our efforts are definitely worth our while! Well done to the following pupils who were nominated to receive the Tequisquiapan Sports Person of the Year Award: Andrés P., Luis Rodrigo G, Diego G., Nicole A., Uriel U. and David D. Although a VICTORIA student did not win this award, we are extremely proud of our pupils’ sporting achievements. The word of the week is dedication.

Our year 12 students had a great trip to the EBC University in Querétaro on Wednesday. Not only did they get to learn more about the courses they offer, but they also participated in negotiation activities. On Tuesday 4th December, some of our year 13 students will be taking the Anáhuac entrance exam in school. Having the agreement with the Anáhuac University means that our students do not have to travel to Querétaro to do the exam.

Secondary reports will be issued on Tuesday 4th December. Attached you will find a sheet to request interviews for the Parent/Teacher meetings which will be held on Tuesday 11th December.

Our Library Night, which takes place next week on Thursday 6th December at 6:30pm, will be slightly different this year. As well as there being ample opportunity to buy books, we also have a number of interesting literature events. We are very excited about this and hope that you enjoy it! Please see the attached poster for details.

On Wednesday 23rd January, we will be holding a promotional event in Cadereyta for parents who are interested in sending their children to VICTORA. The time and venue will be confirmed. On Thursday 24th January we will be holding the same promotional event in VICTORIA followed by an Open Day so that everyone has the chance to see for themselves how we work at VICTORIA. Please let Lety Ochoa know if you would like us to send personal invitations to anyone who you know is interested. In previous years, we have held these events in San Juan, Ezequiel Montes and San Gil, however, this year we would like to do something different and invite prospective parents to VICTORIA. You are of course also welcome to come as it is a great opportunity to learn more about the VICTORIA system. There will be a number of different talks and activities going on throughout the day which are open to both present and prospective VICTORIA parents. We will publish a timetable in the next newsletter.

We are looking for a special educational needs teaching assistant to work in lower primary starting in January 2013. For more details about the job or to email your CV as an application, please contact Erica Domínguez at domheric@hotmail.com before Friday 7th December.

Our local DIF offices in Tequisquiapan have asked for our support to do a clean-up of La Laja and Fuentezuelas at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday 2nd December. They have also asked if anyone could donate the following materials: paint, chairs, desks, wood, nails, whiteboard and fabric to make curtains. If you can donate any of these items, please deliver them to their offices. Thank you!

I would like to remind you that when we have school events, such as the Hallowe’en party or Library Night, they are social events. The aim of the events is for parents to come with their children so that they can enjoy the time together and children are safe under their parental supervision.

Nuestros estudiantes de Año 12 tuvieron una excelente visita a la Universidad EBC en Querétaro el miércoles de esta semana. No sólo consiguieron aprender más sobre los cursos que ofrecen, pero también participaron en actividades de negociación. El martes 4 de diciembre, algunos de nuestros estudiantes Año 13 tomarán el examen de admisión de la Universidad Anáhuac en escuela. El acuerdo que tenemos con la Universidad de Anáhuac significa que nuestros estudiantes no tienen que viajar a Querétaro para hacer el examen.

Los reportes de Secundaria se entregan el martes 4 de diciembre. Con los reportes encontrarán una hoja para solicitar las juntas entre padres de familia y maestros que se llevarán a cabo el martes 11 de diciembre.

Nuestra Noche de Biblioteca, que será la próxima semana, jueves 6 de diciembre a las 6:30 p.m. será un poco diferente este año. Así como habrá muchas oportunidades para comprar libros, también tenemos un número de eventos literarios de interés. ¡Nos emociona mucho y esperamos que lo disfruten! Por favor vean el cartel que se adjunta para más detalles.

El miércoles 23 de enero, llevaremos a cabo un evento promocional en Cadereyta para los padres de familia interesados en mandar a sus niños a VICTORIA. El tiempo y el lugar serán confirmados. El jueves 24 de enero llevaremos a cabo el mismo evento promocional en VICTORIA seguido por un Día Abierto de modo que todos tenga la oportunidad de ver para sí mismos cómo trabajamos en VICTORIA. Por favor avísenle a Lety Ochoa si les gustaría que les enviemos invitaciones personales a sus conocidos que saben que están interesados. En años anteriores, hemos llevado a cabo estos eventos en San Juan del Río, Ezequiel Montes y San Gil, sin embargo, este año quisiéramos hacer algo diferente e invitar a padres interesados a VICTORIA. Ustedes por supuesto también están invitados a venir pues es una gran oportunidad para conocer más sobre el sistema del VICTORIA. Dear Parents,

We have had a great start to our anti-bullying work this week. I have been busy working with our students and have been very impressed with their maturity and sensitivity to the topic. Our year 2 pupils enjoyed their assertiveness training and our year 5 pupils were very skilled in being able to identify whether an incident was bullying or not. Mr Duncombe has worked hard to support our students to create anti-bullying visual displays in the playground and we look forward to seeing the final results! There are photos of some of the work done on the email version of the newsletter. Anti-bullying week has extended into anti-bullying month in the UK and we will be continuing our anti-bullying work next week in VICTORIA. I will send a full report of our activities with next week’s newsletters.

We are extremely proud of Natalia in year 13 who has been selected to attend the candidates’ weekend at The University of New York in Abu Dhabi. This is a wonderful chance to visit the Middle East, with all expenses paid. Congratulations, Natalia! We wish you luck with your application!

Well done to Andrés in year 12 who appeared on Cable Canal Noticias last weekend to promote the international cricket tournament which takes place at the Unidad Deportiva in Tequisquiapan on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December. I look forward to seeing you all at the opening ceremony on Saturday at 12:30pm.

Yesterday afternoon at a ceremony in Querétaro, we received a certificate recognising our outstanding Prepa 2012 ENLACE results in Reading Ability. Well done, Prepa!

Congratulations to the following pupils who received special awards from the Presidencia on Tuesday for their incredible sporting achievements: Andrés, year 12 - Rugby, Luis Rodrigo, year 12 - Tae Kwon Do and Rugby, Diego, year 12 - Rugby, Nicole, year 9 – ice skating, Uriel year 10 – swimming and David year 7 – tennis.

On Wednesday our staff played football against our Prepa students and won 7-2. Well done!

After the slight delay 'The Big Draw' exhibition has finally come around and VICTORIA is happy to announce that it will be at La Moraleja in Tequisquipan Centre, on Friday 30th November, starting time is 6:30pm. We hope that you can all make it.

The estimated time of arrival at Bernal is 11:00am and we will all be gathering at the Piave restaurant (Ignacio Zaragoza 13, downtown Bernal), so please come and show your support. ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA: 

Tuvimos un excelente inicio de nuestro trabajo en contra del acoso escolar esta semana. Estuve muy ocupada trabajando con nuestros alumnos y estoy impresionada con la madurez y sensibilidad que tienen hacia el tema. Los niños y niñas de Año 2 disfrutaron la capacitación de asertividad, y los estudiantes de Año 5 demostraron mucha habilidad en identificar si un incidente era o no acoso. Mr Duncombe ha trabajado mucho para apoyar a nuestros alumnos a crear exhibiciones visuales en el patio de la escuela en contra del acoso escolar y ya queremos ver los resultados finales. En la versión enviada por correo electrónico podrán ver algo del trabajado realizado por los niños. La semana en contra del acoso escolar en el Reino Unido ya se extendió a ser el mes en contra del acoso escolar y en VICTORIA continuaremos trabajando con este tema. La próxima semana les enviaré un reporte completo de nuestras actividades.

Estamos muy orgullosos de Natalia en Año 13 quien ha sido seleccionada para asistir al fin de semana de candidatos a la Universidad de Nueva York en Abu Dhabi. Es una maravillosa oportunidad ya que puede visitar el Medio Oriente con todos los gastos pagados. ¡Muchas felicidades, Natalia! ¡Te deseamos mucha suerte con tu solicitud!

Ayer por la tarde, en una ceremonia en Querétaro, recibimos un reconocimiento por los excelentes resultados de Habilidad Lectora en la prueba ENLACE 2012 de los alumnos de Prepa. ¡Muy bien hecho estudiantes de Prepa!

Andrés de Año 12 apareció en Cable Canal Noticias el fin de semana pasado promocionando el Torneo Internacional de Cricket que se llevará a cabo en la Unidad Deportiva de Tequisquiapan el sábado 8 y domingo 9 de diciembre. ¡Felicidades! Espero verlos a todos en la ceremonia de inauguración el sábado a las 12:30 p.m.

También queremos felicitar a los siguientes alumnos, ya que recibieron reconocimientos por parte de la Presidencia el martes pasado por sus logros deportivos: Andrés, Año 12 - Rugby, Luis Rodrigo Año 12 - Tae Kwon Do y Rugby, Diego, Año 12 - Rugby, Nicole Año 9 – patinaje, Uriel Año 10 – natación y David Año 7 – tenis.

Dear Parents,

Last week, Mr Binnis led yr 12 (plus four teachers) on the annual Nevado de Toluca volcano trip. The weather was superb; freezing overnight with glorious sunny days. The students walked around the rim, across the crater floor and many reached the highest point of the rim. This demanding trip has been a popular Prepa event for 15 years and for the very first time one of our students suffered from serious altitude sickness! Planning for overnight camps always involves an emergency support vehicle so, after contacting the family, a teacher drove him down to the city of Toluca where they spent the night in a hotel. Recovery at the lower altitude was rapid and the group was re-united the next day. Word of the week is adventure.

The yr 12 had a very successful visit to the Anahuac University on Wednesday with Mrs. Gilby, Mr. Gregory and Lety Ochoa. The personnel at the University made us very welcome and it gave VICTORIA students the opportunity to see a different university and to understand more about university life.

On Wednesday, Miss Bull and I met with the other directors of international schools in Mexico. We had the opportunity to welcome new members of staff to Mexico and we planned ways in which the 6 schools can work collaboratively in the future.

Story club on a Tuesday is now changing to Film Club for yrs 3 and 4.

La Moraleja (Andador Morelos #9 in downtown Tequisquiapan) has organised an art auction for tonight at 8pm in order to raise money to buy 3 tonnes of cement for the Tequisquiapan orphanage. Come along and support this cause and you can enjoy great food and music.

On Friday 23rd November it is Secondary Music Night. This is a ticket only event and tickets will be on sale on Tuesday for participants and for everyone else on Wednesday. The price for a ticket is $10. The event will start promptly at 6:30pm.

I know that you enjoyed the FRIENDS course this week. I was pleased to hear that you came away with practical ideas designed to reduce depression and anxiety and increase resilience in children and young people.

The Women’s Municipal Institute along with the CEFIM and the organisation “We All Wish to Improve” would like to invite you to a conference on “Self-esteem”. It will be given by Lic. Karina Peña Vieyra and will be held on 21st November at 5:30pm at the Salón Cristales (Tequisquiapan Municipal Community Centre, Carretera 120 San Juan del Río-Xilitla). This event is free.

On Sunday 18th November there is a Christmas Bazaar at Las Cavas Hotel 11am - 7pm.

The next fundraising event for the Mexican Cricket Association will be a sponsored run from Tequisquiapan to Bernal on Saturday 24th November. ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

La semana pasada, Mr Binnis guio a Año 12 (más cuatro maestros) en el viaje de cada año al Nevado de Toluca. El tiempo estuvo extraordinario; de noche helado y de día asoleado. Los alumnos caminaron alrededor del borde y luego a través del cráter; varios alumnos lograron llegar al punto más alto del borde del cráter. Este viaje al Nevado es arduo y ha sido un evento muy concurrido en Prepa durante 15 años. ¡Por primera vez, uno de nuestros alumnos sufrió mareos muy serios por la altura! La planeación de campamentos donde pasan la noche siempre involucra tener un vehículo de emergencia, por lo que después de notificar a la familia, un maestro lo llevó a la ciudad de Toluca donde pasaron la noche en un hotel. Logró recuperarse muy rápido a una altura más baja y el grupo se reunió a la mañana siguiente. La palabra de la semana es aventura.

Año 12 realizó una visita muy exitosa a la Universidad Anáhuac el miércoles con Mrs. Gilby, Mr. Gregory y Lety Ochoa. El personal de la universidad nos dio una muy grata bienvenida y los alumnos de VICTORIA tuvieron la oportunidad de ver otra universidad y comprender un poco más acerca de la vida universitaria.

El miércoles, Miss Bull y yo nos reunimos con otros directores de colegios internacionales en la Ciudad de México. Tuvimos la oportunidad de dar la bienvenida a nuevos miembros del personal a México y planeamos la forma en la que las 6 escuelas pueden trabajar en conjunto en el futuro.

Los martes, el Club de Cuentos cambia al Club de Películas abierto para Años 3 y 4.

Hoy por la noche, La Moraleja (Andador Morelos #9 en el centro de Tequisquiapan) ha organizado una subasta de arte a las 8 p.m. con el fin de recaudar fondos para comprar 3 toneladas de cemento para la Casa Hogar de Tequisquiapan. Por favor vayan y apoyen esta causa, podrán disfrutar de muy buena comida y música.

El viernes 23 de noviembre es la Noche Musical de Secundaria. Este evento es solo para aquellos que tengan su boleto comprado. Los participantes podrán comprar su boleto el martes, y los que deseen acompañarnos, los podrán comprar el miércoles. El costo del boleto es de $10.00 pesos y empezará puntualmente a las 6:30 p.m.

Sé que disfrutaron el curso de AMISTAD PARA SIEMPRE esta semana. Me dio mucho gusto escuchar que hayan visto maneras muy prácticas de como reducir la depresión y ansiedad además de incrementar la fortaleza en los niños y adolecentes.

Para aquellos que quieran asistir a mis pláticas acerca del acoso escolar la próxima semana, les pido que por favor llamen o envíen un correo a la escuela con atención a Lety Ochoa, de esta manera podemos estar conscientes del número de personas que vamos a recibir. Las pláticas son:

El Instituto Municipal de la Mujer, en conjunto con CEFIM y la Organización “Todos Queremos Mejorar”, los invita a la conferencia “Autoestima”. Lo impartirá la Lic. Karina Peña Vieyra y se llevará a cabo el 21 de noviembre a las 5:30 p.m. en el Salón Cristales (en el CDC de Tequisquiapan, Carretera 120 San Juan del Río-Xilitla). Es un evento gratuito.

El domingo 18 de noviembre habrá un Bazar Navideño en el Hotel Las Cavas de 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

El siguiente evento para recaudar fondos para la Asociación Mexicana de Cricket será una corrida patrocinada de Tequisquiapan a Bernal el sábado 24 de noviembre. Todos están cordialmente invitados a participar y correr los 30 km completos o pueden acompañarnos a lo largo de varias etapas de la ruta. Con esta carta semanal se encuentra un mapa que les muestra los puntos de reunión a los 30km, 20km, 8km y 1km con las estimadas horas de llegada. Si quieren ayudar, les pedimos que reúnan $100.00 pesos para aquellos que corren los 30 km y 20 km, y $50.00 pesos para aquellos que corren 8 km y 1 km. La hora estimada de llegada a Bernal es a las 11 a.m. y nos reuniremos en el restaurante Piave (Ignacio Zaragoza 13, en el centro de Bernal). Por favor vengan a apoyar este evento. • Martes 11 de diciembre - no habrá clases; habrá capacitación de maestros por la mañana y juntas de padres de familia de Secundaria con maestros a partir de las 12:30 p.m. 
• Sábado 15 de diciembre - reunión de exalumnos en el Rancho El 7.
