ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Fue una semana muy activa en  VICTORIA esta semana con los exámenes internacionales y los de ENLACE que se estuvieron llevando a cabo al mismo tiempo. Quiero darle las gracias a todo el personal y a los padres de familia que nos apoyaron  y a los alumnos les decimos “muy bien” por todo su trabajo.

Bien hecho  el trabajo del equipo de rugby del VICTORIA por su participación en el partido contra Querétaro el sábado pasado. Todos se la pasaron muy bien y esperamos escuchar más en el futuro acerca de sus partidos.

Quisiera expresarle mi agradecimiento a Mrs. Pruneda por apoyarme durante la sesión de radio el lunes pasado. Tuvimos la oportunidad de platicar sobre un tema muy importante, “La Inteligencia Emocional en las Escuelas” en el programa ‘La Fuerza de la Palabra’ en Radio Exa. Si tuvieron la oportunidad de sintonizarlo, espero que lo hayan disfrutado.

El jueves pasado Año 2 inició su campamento con el pie izquierdo al dejar dos tiendas de campaña en la escuela. Por suerte Mrs. Monjaraz se los pudo llevar más tarde. Los niños gozaron del agua en El Arenal haciendo experimentos científicos además de participar en actividades de natación y divirtiéndose. Se integraron y se apoyaron muy bien jugando cricket hasta que atardeció. La mañana siguiente se levantaron a hacer burbujas gigantes antes del desayuno. Le damos las gracias a Mrs. Nevett, Mrs. Gómez y a Susi por organizar el campamento y por su apoyo durante el viaje.

Mr. Nevett les agradece a todos sus donaciones de cartones de huevo. Ya tiene suficientes cartones para llevar a cabo su proyecto. ¡Muchas gracias!

Les informamos que ya no estaremos recibiendo solicitudes de beca para el próximo año académico. En caso de haber realizado una solicitud recientemente, pronto nos estaremos poniendo en contacto con ustedes. En el mes de junio estaré publicando los Lineamientos para la Solicitud de Becas, la cual estará al alcance de todos para que lo puedan leer. Esta publicación les dará información clara sobre los tipos de becas disponibles en VICTORIA, el criterio utilizado para recibir una beca y poderla mantener, además de informarles la fecha límite  para la solicitud de becas del ciclo escolar 2011-2012.

El viernes de la próxima semana estaremos donando al orfanatorio todos los objetos perdidos que se han acumulado. Les pedimos que vengan a la escuela a revisar si su hijo o hija ha extraviado algo en la escuela.

El lunes 30 de mayo estaremos en la Casa Club del Club de Golf San Gil en un evento informativo presentando a VICTORIA a padres de familia interesados en conocer más acerca de la escuela. La presentación iniciará a las 10 a.m. De nuevo están cordialmente invitados a acompañarnos y por favor informen a los padres de familia que pudieran estar interesados.

Como  recordatorio; la próxima semana los alumnos de Año 12 tendrán sus exámenes y los estudiantes de Años 8 y 9 tendrán sus evaluaciones.

Espero que todos tengan un excelente fin de semana. Sé que todos se merecen un descanso después de una semana tan ocupada.

DEAR PARENTS,

A very busy week for us all here at VICTORIA with our international and ENLACE exams taking place at the same time.  I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and parents who have supported us this week and 'Well done' to the students for all their hard work.

Well done also to the VICTORIA rugby team for their participation in the match against Queretaro last Saturday.  Everyone had a fantastic time and we look forward to hearing more about their future games.
I would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Pruneda for supporting me during our radio session on Monday. Mrs Pruneda and I had the opportunity to talk about the very important topic of ‘Emotional Intelligence in Schools’ on ‘La Fuerza de la Palabra’, Radio Exa.  I hope you enjoyed it if you were able to tune in!

Year 2 camp got off to a bad start last Thursday when they left two of their tents in school! Luckily Mrs Monjaraz was able to bring them later. The children enjoyed the water of El Arenal, using it for science experiments as well as swimming activities and having fun. They integrated and supported each other very well, playing cricket until the daylight faded and getting up for giant bubbles before breakfast.  Many thanks to Mrs Nevett, Mrs Gomez and Susi for organising and supporting the trip.

Mr Nevett would like to thank everyone for all their egg tray donations.  He now has enough to complete the project.  Thank you!

We will no longer be accepting scholarship requests for the next academic year.  If you have made a recent application then you will be hearing from us soon.  In June, I shall be publishing the VICTORIA Scholarship Guidelines which will be available for everyone to read. The guidelines will give you clear information about the types of scholarships available at VICTORIA, the criteria for receiving and maintaining a scholarship and the deadlines for next year’s applications.

At the end of next week we shall be donating our large stock of lost property to the orphanage.  Please come in and check if you think that your child may have lost something in school.

On Monday 30th May we are holding an informative event in the San Gil Club House so that prospective parents can find out more information about VICTORIA. The presentation will start at 10am.  You are very welcome to come along  and please let other parents know who might be interested.

Just a reminder that next week, year 12 will have exams and years 8 and 9 will have evaluations.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Agradecemos  a todos los que enviaron regalos y buenos deseos por el Día del Maestro. También damos  las gracias a las familias  del Ejido Hacienda Grande por hacer del sábado un día tan especial. El miércoles de esta semana la Asociación de Padres de Familia organizó una velada increíble para todo el personal para celebrar del Día del Maestro. ¡Todos la pasaron muy bien! Muchas gracias a todos.

Gracias  a la familia Trejo Nájera por donar cortinas para el salón de Año 4. Apreciamos mucho su apoyo y amabilidad.

Los alumnos de año 3B y 3Y   fueron al Arenal a campar y les fue muy bien. Gracias a todos los miembros del personal que apoyaron el viaje: Miss Divers, Mrs. Nevett, Mrs. Valencia, Mr. Romero y Susy.

La visita que realizó Año 3 a una granja el miércoles pasado fue un éxito. Les agradecemos a los padres de familia su apoyo,  al personal de Victoria  que los acompañó y a la familia Ochoa por recibirlos.

Les pedimos una disculpa a todos aquellos que quisieron escuchar la entrevista de radio el día de hoy. La estación de radio pospuso la entrevista al último momento y lo reprogramó para el lunes 23 de mayo a las 2 p.m. Mrs. Pruneda y yo estaremos platicando a cerca del desarrollo de competencias en la escuela y la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el aprendizaje.

La semana pasada se entregaron cartas a todos los alumnos en Años 8, 9 y 10 con información sobre el campamento que se llevará a cabo este año durante 'La Semana de Algo Diferente'. Los alumnos visitarán el Campamento Aventura justo afuera de San Joaquín y participarán en  actividades como son la tirolesa, escalada en roca y tiro al arco. Si sus hijos están interesados, por favor envíen las hojas de permisos firmados  y el dinero correspondiente para entrega a Mr. Duncombe. Si tienen alguna pregunta favor de contactarnos.

Tristemente despedimos al Dr. Henshaw y a su esposa ya que el día de hoy se regresaron a Inglaterra. Desde agosto nos estuvieron ayudando mucho sustituyendo clases y trabajando con los maestros. Además nos dejaron una buena cantidad de material didáctico y otras cositas valiosas. Los extrañaremos y les deseamos lo mejor.

DEAR PARENTS,

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sent gifts and good wishes to us for Teachers’ Day.  We would also like to say a special thank you to the families from the Ejido Hacienda Grande for a wonderful day last Saturday.  On Wednesday night, the Parents’ Association organised a fantastic evening for all staff to celebrate Teachers’ Day.  We thoroughly enjoyed the evening!  Thank you very much to everyone!

Also, another big thank you to the Trejo Najera family for donating curtains for the Year 4 classroom.  We really      appreciate your kindness and support.

Year 3 had a wonderful camp last week at El Arenal and I would like to thank all the members of staff who supported the trip: Miss Divers, Mrs Valencia, Mr Romero, Suzy and Mrs Nevett.

Year 3 also had a great farm trip on Wednesday.  Thank you to all the staff and parents who accompanied them and thank you to the Ochoa family for hosting the visit.

Apologies to those of you who may have tuned in for our radio interview today.  This was postponed at the last minute by the radio station and it has been rescheduled for Monday 23^rd May at 2pm.  Mrs Pruneda and I will be talking on Radio Exe about developing competencies in school and the link between emotional intelligence and learning.

Last week letters were given to all students in Years 8, 9 and 10 about this year’s ‘Something Different Week’ camp.  Pupils will be visiting Aventura Camp just outside of San Joaquin and they will be participating in activities such as ziplining, rock climbing and archery.  If pupils are interested, please send permission slips and money to Mr Duncombe.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the school.

A sad farewell to Dr and Mrs Henshaw, they fly back to England today.  They have been helping in VICTORIA since August; covering classes as well as working with teachers.  They have also left us with a wealth of teaching materials and goodies.  They will be missed but we wish them well for the future.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Esperamos que hayan disfrutado de las actividades que realizaron sus hijos en Primaria el  Día de las Madres. Fue una sorpresa adicional poder ver el lanzamiento de los globos aerostáticos como una lección de seguimiento de la clase de Física de Mr. Nevett. Le agradezco mucho a la Asociación de Padres de Familia su ayuda durante la mañana de este día.

Este periodo tiene muchos exámenes y evaluaciones por lo que les recuerdo lo siguiente:

·         Año 7: La Semana de Evaluación inicia el lunes 16 de mayo. Los alumnos seguirán con el mismo horario de clases pero tendrán evaluaciones/exámenes durante el día.

·         Años 8 y 9: Su Semana de Evaluación empieza el lunes 30 de mayo y tendrán el mismo formato de evaluaciones/exámenes que en Año 7.

·         Año 12: El día lunes 30 de mayo inicia la Semana de Exámenes. Los estudiantes tendrán un horario especial para esa semana y necesitarán estar en la escuela para presentar sus exámenes.

·         Año 10: Su Semana de Exámenes iniciará el lunes 6 de junio. Tendrán un horario especial pero es necesario que asistan a la escuela toda la semana.

·         Los exámenes de enlace para primaria se llevarán a cabo los días lunes 23 y martes 24 de mayo. Los de secundaria, miércoles 25 y jueves 26 de mayo.

Les  informamos  que durante las siguientes semanas estaremos grabando videos de los alumnos trabajando y participando en actividades escolares. Si prefieren que sus hijos NO sean incluidos en estos videos les pedimos nos los hagan  saber por escrito a través de  una carta.

Con el fin de poder hacer la planeación curricular del próximo año consideramos muy importante saber cuántos alumnos se quedarán en el VICTORIA para el ciclo 2011-2012. Los grupos de Años 1, 7 y 10 prometen ser grupos muy grandes. Les pedimos que llenen el formato que incluimos en su diario informándonos acerca de  sus planes de re-inscripción para el siguiente año escolar. Estas hojas se deberán entregar a los maestros titulares.

Estas son algunas de las fechas importantes para sus agendas:

El miércoles 18 de mayo a las 9:30 a.m. habrá un evento informativo en el hotel Holiday Inn Express en San Juan del Rio.  Durante este evento  estaremos dando información a aquellos padres de familia que están interesados en mandar a sus hijos al VICTORIA.  Todos están cordialmente invitados y si saben de alguien que pueda estar interesado en asistir les agradeceré se lo hagan saber.  Los que estén  interesados en  ayudarnos a repartir invitaciones, por favor comuníquense con Lety en Recepción.

El viernes 20 de mayo a las 2 p.m. a Mrs Pruneda y a mí nos entrevistarán en el programa de radio ‘La fuerza de la palabra’.  Platicaremos acerca del desarrollo de competencias en la escuela y la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el aprendizaje.

Ese mismo viernes se volverán a vender donas Krispy Kreme en apoyo al proyecto que lleva a cabo Garabatos. Se pueden hacer pedidos hasta el miércoles  18 de mayo.

Por ultimo  les quiero recordar que el sistema de circulación para recoger a sus hijos, debe ser en un solo sentido en la calle de Vicente Suárez. Cuando todos utilizamos el mismo sistema las cosas se hacen mucho más fáciles para los involucrados.

DEAR PARENTS,

We hope that you enjoyed the open morning on Mother’s Day in Primary.  It was lovely to have the extra surprise of being able to watch the hot-air balloon launch as a follow-up to one of Mr. Nevett’s physics lesson.  I would also like to thank the Parent’s Association for all their help and support during the morning.

This term is a busy term with lots of exams and evaluations taking place.  I would like to remind you of the following:

·         Year 7 Evaluation Week starts on Monday 16th May. The students will follow a normal timetable but will have evaluations/exams during class time.

·         Years 8 and 9 Evaluation Week starts on Monday 30th May. They will follow the same format as Year 7.

·         Year 12 Exam Week is also on Monday 30th May.  They will follow a special timetable for the week and will only need to attend school for their exams.

·         Year 10 Exam Week starts on Monday 6th June. They will have a special exam timetable but they will have to attend school all week.

·         ENLACE exams for Primary students are on Monday 23^rd and Tuesday 24th May.

·         ENLACE exams for Secondary students are on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th May.

Over the next few weeks, we will be taking videos of students working and doing activities in school for advertising purposes.  If you would NOT like your child/children to appear in these videos please write a letter to the school.

In order for us to be able to plan our teaching and learning for next year, we need a clear idea of the number of students who will be staying with us at VICTORIA.  The present Year 1, Year 7 and Year 10 are looking to be very full groups for next year.  Please help us by filling in the form attached to your child’s diary to state whether you will be re-inscribing your child for the next academic year.  These forms need to be returned to form teachers.

Some more important dates for your diaries:

On Wednesday 18^th May at 9:30am, we will be holding an informative event at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in San Juan del Rio.  This event is to provide more information for any parents who are thinking of sending their children to VICTORIA.  You are, of course, invited to come and if you know of any parents who may be interested in coming then please let them know.  You can also contact Lety in reception if you would like some invitations to give out.

On Friday 20^th May at 2pm, Mrs Pruneda and I will be interviewed on the Radio programme, ‘La fuerza de la palabra’.  We will be talking about developing competencies in school and the link between emotional intelligence and learning.

Also, on Friday 20^th May, we will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to support the Garabatos project.  Orders can be placed up until Wednesday 18^th May.

Finally, I would like to remind you to please respect the one-way system when driving to and from school.  When everyone uses the same system, things are able to run more quickly and smoothly.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

Estamos empezando un nuevo periodo en VICTORIA y ya tenemos muchas cosas interesantes que contarles...

Quiero primero felicitar a Rodrigo Torres (Año 10), Angélica Muñoz (Año 9) y María José Alonso (Año 8) quienes participaron en la segunda ronda de la ‘Olimpiada de las Competencias’ el martes 3 de mayo.  Angélica y María José en junio se irán a competir a nivel estatal. ¡Muchas felicidades!

El pasado viernes 29 de abril nacio Montse. Con un gran cariño le mandamos  muchas felicidades a toda su familia  a Mrs. Gracida, a quien extrañamos mucho en la escuela y le deseamos lo mejor. ¡Esperamos verla pronto de regreso en el jardín de niños!

Seguramente están ansiosos por celebrar el Día de las Madres el martes de la próxima semana. En primaria  tendremos un Día abierto y los padres de familia están invitados a que visiten las clases a cualquier hora durante la mañana. Podrán entrar a observar diferentes lecciones y trabajar un rato con sus hijos. El martes terminamos clases a las 11:30 a.m. y los camiones se irán a esa hora.

Queremos darle las gracias a la Asociación de Padres de Familia por los regalos que le entregaron a todos los alumnos por el Día del Niño.

Los estudiantes del curso de Negocios de Año 12 están vendiendo mochilas del VICTORIA con un costo de $150.00  de color  negro o azul. ¡Hay que comprarlas ya porque no hay muchas y vuelan!

Junto con esta carta semanal, encontrarán el horario de las actividades extracurriculares para este periodo. Valoramos mucho nuestro programa extracurricular y sé que los alumnos se divierten durante sus sesiones al terminar el día escolar. Por favor apoyen a sus hijos al escoger sus actividades.

Algunos de ustedes tal vez han escuchado o saben que Miss Domínguez y yo trabajamos juntas para apoyar a alumnos del VICTORIA quienes podrán necesitar un poco de ayuda en su aprendizaje. Ahora queremos ofrecer lo mismo para niños, gente joven y sus familias externas que no asisten a nuestra escuela. Este servicio se llevará a cabo después del horario de clases y ofrecemos una variedad de evaluaciones incluyendo evaluaciones de habilidades de lenguaje, cognitivas, sociales y emocionales. Si saben de padres de familia que están preocupados por sus hijos y requieren de ayuda, pueden contactar a la escuela directamente para más información y costos. Para todos los alumnos de la escuela este servicio seguirá siendo gratuito.  A partir de agosto 2011, Miss Domínguez estará trabajando en el área de educación especial de tiempo completo. Es nuestra intención dar más apoyo y proporcionar más trabajo terapéutico a los alumnos durante el horario escolar.

Espero que todos disfruten mucho del puente y espero verlos a todos el lunes 9 de mayo.

Wednesday 4^th May, 2011.

DEAR PARENTS,

A new term has begun at VICTORIA and we already have lots of exciting news to share…

I would like to say congratulations to Rodrigo Torres (Year 10), Angélica Muñoz (Year 9) and María José Alonso (Year 8) who participated in the second round of the ‘Olimpiada de las Competencias’ on Tuesday 3^rd May.  Angélica and Maria José will now go on to compete at the state level in June.  Well done!

Congratulations to Mrs Gracida who had a baby girl, Montse, on Friday 29^th April.  We would like to send our love to Mrs Gracida and her family, and although we are missing her in school, we wish her well and hope to see her back soon!

I am sure that you are all looking forward to celebrating Mothers’ Day next Tuesday.  The primary students are holding an Open Day and their parents are invited to visit classes at any time during the morning, to see different lessons and work with their children.  We will then finish school at 11:30am and the buses will leave at this time.

Thank you very much to the Parent’s Association who kindly gave gifts to all the students to celebrate Children’s Day.

The Year 12 Business Studies students are selling VICTORIA school bags for $150.  They come in black and blue and there is a very limited number available so you need to be quick to buy one!

You will find the activities timetable for this term attached to the newsletter.  We really value our extra-curricular programme and I know that the students enjoy the after-school sessions.  Please support your children in choosing their activities.

Some of you may know that Miss Domínguez and I work together to support students in VICTORIA who may need some extra support with their learning.  We are now starting to offer this service to children, young people and their families who do not attend VICTORIA.  This service will run after school and we are offering a number of assessments including language, cognitive and social and emotional skills.  If you know of any parents who have concerns about their children and would like help in this area, please ask them to contact the school for more details about the assessments available and their costs.  This service will remain available to all current students in VICTORIA for free.  As of August 2011, Miss Dominguez will be working in the area of special educational needs on a full-time basis.  We plan to be able to provide more additional support and therapeutic work to our students during school time.
