Dear Parents,

A big congratulation to Jorge, Andrés and André and ex-pupil Santiago who have been selected to represent Mexico in an international cricket tournament in El Salvador in December. This is a fantastic achievement and an inspiration to all those VICTORIA students who are involved in cricket. We wish them all the very best of luck. The selected students will be organising lots of fundraising events between now and December to help make this opportunity possible. The first event is a fundraising dinner at Las Cavas in Tequisquiapan on Friday 5^th October from 7:00pm until 10:00pm. Tickets will be on sale at VICTORIA as of next week and will cost $200, included in this price are food, drinks, live music and entertainment. We hope that we can rely on all your support to make this fantastic opportunity happen.

Thank you to the Parent’s Association (PA) and Student Council for all their hard work in organising our Noche Mexicana.  It was wonderful to see so many of you there enjoying the evening! The PA would also like to thank everybody for coming. The PA is very pleased to inform you that they have received lots of annual payments, thank you! We know that you have very good ideas about what the PA can do and they would like to hear about them. Our year 12 and 13 students had a very informative visit to the Panamerican Univeristy in Mexico City. This was the first of many visits to universities organised for this academic year by Mrs Gilby, where students get the chance to explore their career options.

We ask all VICTORIA parents NOT to send their kids to school if they have any respiratory illness in order to avoid further infection of students within their group. It is important for children to have breakfast before coming into school as it is a long time from supper to first break. During the day students complain of constant head and stomach aches.

Miss Cheng would like to invite all the year 5 pupils and parents to a meeting on Wednesday 3^rd October at 3pm until 4pm. It is very important that you attend as Miss Cheng will be talking about the English curriculum and what your child is expected to achieve.

I would like to clarify the VICTORIA/SEP scholarship system.  As you know, it is a SEP requirement that all schools give a certain percentage of scholarships.  We at VICTORIA give more than double the amount of scholarships expected by the SEP. The SEP does not pay for these scholarships; the costs are paid for by VICTORIA. Scholarships are allocated through our scholarship committee. On Saturday 15^th December we will be holding an event for all OLD VICTORIANS.  The venue is yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be in San Juan del Rio.  Please let any of our ex-students know to save the date!  It will be great to catch up with them and find out about their exciting lives after VICTORIA!

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

¡Muchísimas felicidades a los alumnos Jorge, Andrés, André y a Santiago, un ex-alumno, quienes fueron seleccionados para representar a México en el torneo internacional de cricket que se llevará acabo en El Salvador en diciembre de este año! Es un logro increíble y sirve de inspiración a todos los alumnos del VICTORIA que están participando en cricket. Les deseamos toda la suerte. Los seleccionados estarán organizando varios eventos de aquí a diciembre para lograr su viaje. Su primer evento es una cena en Las Cavas en Tequisquiapan el viernes 5 de octubre de 7-10 p.m. Los boletos se venderán a partir de la próxima semana en el VICTORIA y tienen un costo de $200.00 pesos donde se incluye la cena, bebidas, música en vivo y entretenimiento. Esperamos que poder contar con ustedes y que ayuden a que esta oportunidad se haga realidad.

Le damos las gracias a la Asociación de Padres de Familia (APF) y al Consejo Estudiantil por todo su trabajo al organizar la Noche Mexicana. Nos dio mucho gusto ver a muchos de ustedes disfrutando de la velada. La APF les agradece a todos por haber venido y les informa que ya muchos han pagado su cuota anual. ¡Gracias! Sabemos que tienen buenas ideas acerca de lo que la APF puede hacer y les gustaría que se los enviaran. Los estudiantes de Años 12 y 13 fueron a visita informativa a la Universidad Panamericana en la Ciudad de México esta semana. Este fue la primera de varias visitas que realizarán este año organizadas por Mrs Gilby donde los alumnos tienen la oportunidad de explorar sus opciones de carreras.

A los padres de familia se les pide no enviar a sus hijos al colegio con infecciones respiratorias, esto es con la finalidad de evitar contagios con los demás compañeros.  Además, se les recuerda que los envíen desayunados ya que son muchas las horas que pasan de ayuno desde la hora en que cenan hasta el primer descanso y acuden con dolor constante de cabeza y malestar estomacal durante el día.

Miss Cheng hace la invitación a los alumnos y padres de familia de Año 5 a una junta el miércoles 3 de octubre de 3 a 4 p.m. Es muy importante que acudan a esta junta ya que se discutirá el plan de estudios del idioma inglés y los logros que se esperan de sus hijos.

Quisiera aclarar el sistema de becas del VICTORIA/SEP.  Como ya han de saber, es un requisito de la SEP que todas las escuelas otorguen un cierto porcentaje de becas a su alumnado. Otorgamos más del doble de la cantidad de becas además que la SEP no paga estas becas, el costo lo cubre el VICTORIA. Las becas se otorgan a través de nuestro comité de becas. El sábado 15 de diciembre habrá un evento para nuestros exalumnos de VICTORIA. El lugar del encuentro está por confirmarse pero es muy probable que se lleve acabo en San Juan del Río. Por favor pasen la voz a los exalumnos que conozcan para que nos guarden esa fecha. ¡Nos dará mucho gusto ponernos al corriente y enterarnos de lo que ha sucedido en sus vidas después de terminar en el VICTORIA!
