Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! It’s been a great
start for us!
Luis P, who graduated from our year
13 last July and is currently studying at The University of New York in Abu
Dhabi, has received a special award from The University of Cambridge for
attaining the highest mark in the world in his A-Level Spanish exam. We are
very proud of Luis for this outstanding achievement and very proud of our
Spanish department. Well done!
I have been telling the staff about my New Year's
resolution which is to start working closely, one at a time, with every teacher
and every class. I will be looking at planning, classroom dynamics, observing
teaching and learning not to mention team teaching too. I am looking forward to getting to know and
supporting everybody so much better.
You will find our extra-curricular activity timetable for

excited to be offering Mandarin to our Kinder and year 1 pupils and I know that
the 10 places available have now been filled. The school is paying for this
activity which will be led by Brenda Moreno, Director of MaPo Kids (Plaza
Pedegral). If the activity proves to be popular, we will run it again next term
but there will be an additional cost to the pupil. We would also like to know
what other kinds of extra-curricular activities you would like to see available
at VICTORIA and we would be very grateful if you could fill out the survey

This term Miss Quesnel is running a knitting activity
from 3-4pm. She will be knitting blankets for the old folks home, so if you
have any leftover yarn you would be willing to donate, please send it in. She
would also like to invite anyone who knits to participate with the group.
We are offering a Japanese activity for Prepa students
only on a Wednesday that is now full. There are 25 places available for the
German activity. Places can be reserved by contacting Lety Ochoa before
Wednesday 16th January.
Next week our Primary and Secondary students will be
receiving their second set of cartilla grades for this academic year. If your
child has not made progress in a subject, you will see that they have been set
a target and strategy in order to help them improve. You will also be able to
see their Spanish reading attainment. If you have any queries about this new
system, please make an appointment to talk to your child’s form tutor.
On Wednesday 16th January at 1:45pm I will
be restarting the parenting course which I ran last year. There are no limits to the number of parents
who can participate but you do need to register with Lety Ochoa so that I know
how many of you to expect. This term the course is designed for Kinder and
Primary parents. We will be revisiting the same themes from last year:
behaviour, understanding our children´s needs, emotional intelligence, sex education,
child development, etc. In the initial session next week, I will be collecting
your views on what you would specifically like to gain from attending the course
and then I will tailor the sessions to suit our needs.
Magally C. and Paulina S. in yr 8 will participate in
an opera recital next Friday 18th Jan 8 pm at the cinemas in Plaza
Pedregal. This is a fundraiser for a 15 year old girl with an incurable
disease. The tickets cost $75 pesos and they are on sale with Magally Escudero
at 273 55 03 and cel 427 117 0089.
Thank you very much to those of you who donated Three
Kings gifts for the Orphanage.

prospective families at VICTORIA, with the following events:
o 9am-10am: The VICTORIA system
o 10:30am-12:00pm: Why VICTORIA?
o 12:00pm-2:30pm Tours of the school and classroom
observations and activities
o 2:30pm-3:00pm Plenary session

Ochoa know if you would like us to send personal invitations to anyone who is
interested in sending their children to VICTORIA. We also have posters and fliers available
which Lety can give you on request. The word of the week is progression.

Every student should be picked up by 3:15pm or be in an after-school
activity. If a student needs to wait until 4 o´clock because a sibling is in an
activity then they must either choose an activity to attend or go to Homework Club.

Año! ¡Hemos tenido un gran inicio de año!
Luis
P, quién terminó Año 13 en julio del 2012 y se encuentra estudiando en la
Universidad de Nueva York en Abu Dhabi, recibió un reconocimiento especial de
la Universidad de Cambridge por obtener la puntuación más alta en su examen de
Español Nivel A. Estamos muy orgullosos de Luis y de nuestro Departamento de
Español. ¡Excelente trabajo!
He estado
platicando con todo el personal docente de mi propósito de año nuevo el cual es
empezar a trabajar muy de cerca, uno por uno, con cada uno de los maestros y
cada uno de los grupos. Estaré observando la planeación, las dinámicas del
salón de clase, la docencia y el aprendizaje además de la enseñanza en equipos.
Va a ser un gusto conocer y apoyar a todos mucho mejor.
El horario de las
actividades extra curriculares ya se encuentra en nuestro sitio web y lo

un grupo limitado de 10 niños de Kinder y Año 1, el cual ya se encuentra

Pedregal), y el VICTORIA está cubriendo el costo de esta actividad. Si la
actividad tiene éxito, se volverá a programar para el siguiente periodo pero
tendrá un costo adicional por alumno. También nos interesa conocer que otras
actividades extra curriculares les gustaría que se ofrecieran en VICTORIA por
lo que les pedimos que contesten la encuesta de nuestra página web que

Este periodo Miss
Quesnel dará la actividad de tejido de 3 a 4 p.m. Estará tejiendo cobijas para
el asilo de ancianos y les pide la donación de estambre que no quieran o
necesiten. También les hace la invitación a todas aquellas personas que tejen y
que quieran venir a participar en el grupo.
Estamos
ofreciendo una actividad de japonés para alumnos de Prepa los miércoles la cual
ya se encuentra con cupo completo. Tenemos 25 lugares para la actividad de
alemán y pueden reservar su lugar con Lety Ochoa antes del miércoles 16 de
enero.
La próxima semana
los alumnos de Primaria y Secundaria recibirán su segundo juego de
calificaciones de cartilla para este ciclo escolar. En caso de que usted
observe que su hijo/a no ha progresado en alguna materia, verán que se le ha
asignado un objetivo y una estrategia para que lo pueda lograr. También podrán
ver su competencia lectora en español. Si tienen alguna duda acerca del nuevo
sistema, les pedimos que hagan una cita con el tutor de su hijo/a para
platicarlo.
El miércoles 16
de enero a las 1:45 p.m. reiniciaré el curso para padres que impartí el año
pasado. No habrá un límite de participantes pero sí necesito que se registren
con Lety Ocho para poder tener una idea del número de integrantes. Este periodo
el curso está diseñado para padres de Kinder y Primaria. Estaremos repasando
algunos de los temas vistos el año pasado, por ejemplo: conducta, comprender
las necesidades de sus hijos, inteligencia emocional, educación sexual,
desarrollo de sus hijos, etc. En la sesión inicial, les preguntaré a cada uno
de los presentes qué esperan lograr con el curso para así diseñar el curso de
tal manera que se puedan cubrir sus expectativas.

Paulina S. de año 8 estarán participando en un recital de ópera el próximo viernes 18 de enero a las 8 p.m.
en los cinemas de Plaza Pedregal. Este evento es a beneficio de una adolescente
de 15 años de edad que tiene una enfermedad incurable. Los boletos tienen un
costo de $75 pesos y los pueden comprar con Magally Escudero (273 55 03 y cel
427 117 0089).

Si desean que se envíen invitaciones personales a
alguien en particular que está interesado en el VICTORIA como futura escuela

Deberán recoger a todos los alumnos a más tardar a las
3:15 p.m. o estar participando en alguna actividad extra curricular. Si un
alumno tiene que esperar a un hermano/a hasta las 4 p.m. porque participa en
alguna actividad, ellos tendrán que escoger una actividad extra curricular o
asistir al Club de Tareas.
