We had a very energetic Sports Day on Tuesday. It is a truly special event where the whole school comes to together to participate in a variety of competitions. Well done to the Yellow team who came first but more importantly well done to everyone who participated with all their enthusiasm and team spirit! Thank you to the Parents’ Association (PA) for providing the well-deserved refreshments!
A mixed party of staff and friends were very energetic last weekend! They visited and climbed the beautiful Nevado de Toluca volcanic crater. This was a preliminary visit for our annual year 12 & 13 trip there and proved to be a very enjoyable day in glorious weather.
The Secondary girls and boys football teams play in the Copa Coca Cola tomorrow Saturday 20th October at 9:20am at the Unidad in San Juan del Río. Please accompany our players and show your support. Good luck!
Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising events this week. Everybody enjoyed Hamburger Day on Wednesday and Crazy Clothes Day on Friday! Money raised will be going towards the cricketers and the Tequisquiapan orphanage. The Mexican Cricket Association is running another event on Thursday 25th October called Cake Day where they will be selling a variety of different cakes and desserts for $10 a slice.
Our year 12 and 13 students received a talk from the EBC University on Wednesday where they were able to find out more about the courses and scholarships available.
I was very proud to attend the ceremony on Wednesday when Tequisquiapan became the 61st town in Mexico to be awarded Magic Town status. We are the 4th town in Queretaro to receive this award and I am excited about the opportunities that this will bring to Tequisquiapan. The word of the week is magic.
Our year 11 Design and Technology students had a very informative trip to Xantico furniture workshop at Carretera San Juan del Rio - Tequisquiapan 22. They were shown examples of the types of furniture made and were impressed by the quality of the work. They were then given a demonstration of the design process which fitted perfectly with the theory in the IGCSE course. In the workshop they saw many precision machines for preparing, cutting and joining wooden components. A range of unusual woods are used in the construction, giving students an opportunity to widen their experience. Finally they were taken to the finishing area where the furniture is sealed, stained and varnished or painted. The staff of Xantico was excellent and knowledgeable, answering all the students' questions and demonstrating a world of expertise and experience. We owe them a huge thank you.
Some of our year 10 and 11 music students visited the UAQ today where they had the opportunity to work on their individual compositions and to work with other students to analyse pieces by Mozart and Beethoven which form a core part of the IGCSE curriculum.
A number of our year 7 students have been sitting the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint exams this week. This is the first time that we have entered students for the exams and we are keen to assess how we are doing in terms of achieving the Cambridge objectives for Primary Maths, Science and English. Our year 13 students sat their Cambridge AS Thinking Skills exam on Thursday, a test which draws on their ability to problem solve and analyse scenarios.
We are sorry that we have had to postpone The Big Draw event due to difficulties with the timings of firing the clay pieces. However, everything will be ready for exhibition on Friday 30th November from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at La Moraleja, located next to the post office in the centre of Tequisquiapan. We look forward to seeing you there.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the FRIENDS (www.amistadparasiempre.com) course that we will be hosting in VICTORIA. If we have more than 20 participants (which is likely) then the cost will be $1500 each. You would need to attend two sessions on two separate days. The first session will be from 8am until 12pm on Thursday 15th November for everybody; the second session will be from 8am until 12pm for Primary and Secondary teachers and parents; on Friday 16th November is the last session for Kinder teachers and parents from 1pm until 5pm. Please let Lety in Reception know if you would like to attend. Remember that Thursday 15th November is a training morning for teachers therefore school will be closed in the morning so you would have to make childcare arrangements to attend the course and then we have parent/teacher meetings in the afternoon.
Many of you have expressed the need for a shade over our basketball court. We have been looking into different designs and asking for quotes. It is a very expensive project and we want the design to be aesthetically pleasing. If you have any ideas for a design and how we could work together to raise the money then please email me at direccionkt_ibv@prodigy.net.mx or alternatively make an appointment with Lety Ochoa to see me. On Friday 26th October we will have our Hallowe’en Party from 5.30pm – 9pm. If you have not paid your yearly PA fee of $500 then the entry charge will be $25 pesos. Please come dressed up and enjoy the party! If you arrive without a costume then there is a $5 fine by the Student Council and they will paint your face! If you refuse to have your face painted then there is a fine of $25. The PA will be selling Hallowe’en goods during 3rd break and after school as of Monday next week until Friday 26th October. From Monday 19th to Friday 23rd November it is anti-bullying week in all UK schools. We will also be using this week to raise awareness about bullying through carrying out a number of activities designed to help children and young people identify and manage bullying. I will be spending the week working with pupils in the classroom and I will also be offering a talk to parents which will focus on how you can help your children to deal with bullying. I will write more information about the week’s activities soon.

- Next week we will have informative meetings for parents of students in Prepa at Las Cavas Hotel at 9am. Please don’t miss these meetings since we’ll be giving you information you need to know. The dates are: year 10, Monday 22nd October; year 11, Tuesday 23rd October; year 12 &13, Wednesday 23rd.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:
Nuestro Día Deportivo el martes estuvo lleno de energía. Es verdaderamente un evento especial en el que toda la escuela se reúne para participar en varias competencias. ¡Felicidades al equipo Amarillo por su primer lugar pero lo más importante es felicitar a todos por su participación con entusiasmo y espíritu de equipo! Gracias a la Asociación de Padres de Familia (APF) por apoyar con los refrigerios.
¡Un grupo de personal de la escuela y amigos tuvo un disparo de energía el fin de semana pasado! Visitaron y escalaron el bello cráter del Nevado de Toluca. Este fue un viaje preliminar a la visita que realizarán los alumnos de Años 12 y 13 donde el día resultó muy agradable con un clima increíble.
Los equipos de fútbol femenil y varonil de Secundaria juegan en la Copa Coca Cola mañana sábado 20 de octubre a las 9:20 a.m. en la Unidad en San Juan del Río. Por favor vayan al juego para apoyarlos. ¡Mucha suerte!
Muchas gracias a todos los que apoyaron nuestros eventos para recaudar fondos esta semana. A todos les gustó el Día de Hamburguesas (miércoles) y el Día de Ropa Loca (viernes). El dinero recaudado está destinado a los jugadores de cricket y la Casa Hogar de Tequisquiapan. La Asociación Mexicana de Cricket está organizando otro evento para el jueves 25 de octubre, llamado Día de Pastel, donde ofrecerán pasteles y postres de varios tipos a $10.00 pesos la rebanada.
La Universidad EBC vino el miércoles a dar una plática a nuestros alumnos de Años 12 y 13 y tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer más acerca de los cursos y becas que la universidad ofrece.
Me dio mucho gusto asistir el miércoles a la ceremonia donde se le declaró a Tequisquiapan el 61o pueblo en México con categoría Pueblo Mágico. Somos el cuarto pueblo en Querétaro en recibir este nombramiento y me emocionan mucho las oportunidades que esto le traerá a Tequisquiapan.
Los alumnos de Año 11 cursando Diseño y Tecnología realizaron una visita muy informativa a la mueblería Xantico que se encuentra en la Carretera San Juan del Rio - Tequisquiapan 22. Pudieron ver muestras de diferentes tipos de muebles que fabrican y se impresionaron con la calidad del trabajo que se realiza. Se les hizo una demostración del proceso de diseño el cual encaja perfectamente a la teoría de su curso IGCSE. En el taller vieron máquinas de precisión usadas para preparar, cortar y unir componentes de madera. Se utilizan una variedad de maderas exóticas en la construcción y les da a los alumnos una oportunidad de ampliar su experiencia. Al final, se les enseñó el área de terminado donde los muebles se sellan, entintan y barnizan o pintan. El personal de Xantico fue muy amable y tenían mucho conocimiento al contestar las inquietudes de los alumnos y demostraron mucha experiencia. Les agradecemos mucho su tiempo.
Algunos de nuestros estudiantes de música de Años 10 y 11 visitaron la UAQ hoy donde tuvieron la oportunidad de trabajar en sus composiciones individuales. Además trabajaron con otros estudiantes en el análisis de piezas de Mozart y Beethoven los cuales forman una parte central del programa de estudios del IGCSE.
Varios alumnos de Año 7 han estado tomando el examen de Revisión de Cambridge en Primaria esta semana. Es la primera vez que hemos registrado a alumnos para estos exámenes y nos interesa mucho valorar nuestro desempeño con los objetivos de Cambridge en matemáticas, ciencia e inglés en Primaria. Los estudiantes de Año 13 tomaron el examen de Habilidades de Pensamiento nivel AS de Cambridge el jueves. Este examen pone en funcionamiento su habilidad para resolver y analizar escenarios.
Una disculpa por tener que posponer el evento del Big Draw. Esto fue debido a dificultades con los horarios para hornear las piezas de arcilla. Sin embargo, todo estará listo para el día de la exhibición, viernes 30 de noviembre de 6:30 a 8:30pm en La Moraleja; ubicado a un lado de la Oficina de Correos en el centro de Tequisquiapan. Nos dará mucho gusto verlos es día.
Hace algunas semanas les informé acerca del curso AMISTAD POR SIEMPRE (www.amistadparasiempre.com) del cual somos anfitriones. Si logramos tener a más de 20 participantes (muy factible) el costo será de $1500.00 por persona. Sería necesario asistir a dos sesiones en dos días diferentes. La primera sesión es para todos el jueves 15 de noviembre de 8 a.m. a 12 p.m.; la segunda sesión es el viernes 16 de noviembre de 8 a.m. a 12 p.m. para maestros de Primaria y Secundaria y padres de familia; y de 1 p.m. a 5 p.m. para maestros de Kinder y padres de familia. Por favor contacten a Lety en Recepción si quieren asistir. Les recuerdo que el viernes 15 de noviembre será una mañana de capacitación para los maestros y no habrá clases, seguido en la tarde por juntas de padres de familia con maestros por lo que tendrán que arreglar que sus hijos tengan con quien quedarse en casa mientras asisten al curso.
Muchos de ustedes nos han expresado que la escuela requiere de una sombra para la cancha de básquet. Estamos viendo varios diseños y pidiendo cotizaciones. Es un proyecto con un alto costo y queremos que el diseño se agradable estéticamente. El viernes 26 de octubre tendremos nuestra Fiesta de Hallowe’en de 5:30 p.m. a 9 p.m. Si aún no realizan el pago anual de $500.00 pesos para la APF, el costo de la entrada será de $25.00 pesos. Por favor vengan disfrazados y disfruten de la fiesta. El Consejo Estudiantil les cobrará una multa de $5.00 pesos si vienen sin disfraz y les pintará la cara. Si no quieren que les pinten la cara, se le cobrará una multa de $25.00. La APF estará viendo cositas para Hallowe’en durante el tercer break a partir del lunes 22 de octubre hasta el viernes 26. Del lunes 19 al viernes 23 de noviembre es la semana anti-bullying en todas las escuelas en el Reino Unido. Estaremos usando esta semana para concientizar a nuestra comunidad del bullying y llevaremos a cabo varias actividades diseñadas a ayudar a niños y adolecentes identificar y manejar el bullying. Durante la semana, estaré trabajando con los alumnos en sus salones y estaré ofreciendo una plática a los padres de familia la cual se enfocará en cómo ayudar a sus hijos para manejar el bullying. Les estaré dando más información acerca de las actividades de la semana muy pronto.
Algunos recordatorios:
- La próxima semana tendremos unas juntas informativas para padres de familia de alumnos en Prepa en el Hotel Las Cavas a las 9 a.m. Por favor no falten ya que se les dará información muy importante. Las fechas son: Año 10, lunes 22 de octubre; Año 11, martes 23 de octubre; Años 12 y 13, miércoles 23 de octubre.
- Por favor envíen un correo a Jorge Córdova jcordova@bethics.com para que se les asigne su nombre de usuario y contraseña, así podrán entrar al sitio web de la escuela a la sección para padres.
- Esta carta la pueden recibir por correo con todo y los volantes que se envían semana con semana. Envíen un correo a Gloria Sánchez gsc.ibv@gmail.com e incluyan su nombre, correo y nombre de la familia y empiecen a recibir la carta por correo y no impresa.
- Por favor envíen a la escuela los suéteres, chamarras o abrigos que les gustaría donar a la comunidad Mixe en Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca a Lety en Recepción. Realmente necesitan de esta ropa para protegerse del frío en el invierno. Estaremos recibiendo ropa hasta el día 26 de octubre.
