Dear Parents,

On Friday 22^nd March, Sabine Adams came to visit our Primary classes. Sabine is an experienced year 1 teacher in the UK who came to Mexico on a cultural exchange.  Sabine was excited to visit VICTORIA and had lots of fun with the year 1 and 2 students. It was a pleasure to receive such positive feedback from Sabine about the behaviour of our pupils, the quality of learning and teaching and our colourful displays!

Some of you may have heard the recent news which reported that children in Mexico have far less sleep in comparison to children in European countries.  As you know, a lack of sleep can have detrimental effects on our physical and emotional health which in turn can affect learning.  I am often surprised to see some our students out and about very late on a week night. Primary reports come home today and the follow-up interviews will be on Monday 22^nd April. As Yr3 were camping last night, I am not sure that they all collected their reports folder today! Please put a note in their diary if you already know that you would like an appointment to talk to the teachers. Thank you.

This week we have had no after school activities yet a number of students were not collected until 4pm. Please remember to read the newsletters so that you are up to date with what is happening in school. The word of the week is word. Activities start on Monday 15^th April and end on Friday 20^th June, you will find the timetable on our website at the following link https://www.victoriaschool.edu.mx/index.php/en/extra-menu There will be no Swimming Club this coming Wednesday, it will start on Wednesday 24^th April.

An important reminder: This Thursday, 18^th April, Francisco Hinojosa, author of ‘The Worst Woman in the World’ will come to VICTORIA. Rulfo bookstore will be selling some of his books and the cost of these books will be between $50 and $80 pesos. If students already own a book written by Francisco Hinojosa, they are welcome to bring them in to be signed. Please ensure book owner names are written on the inside cover.

Rulfo bookstore has also invited us to their 2013 Children’s Literary Festival in celebration of their 20^th anniversary. It will take place from 12^th-14^th April. The author, María García, has also invited VICTORIA to her book presentation Sunday, 14^th April at 1 pm in the main plaza. It will remind us of the book ‘Boxes from China’. I hope you don’t miss out on this wonderful literary opportunity for you and your children.

Yr 12 is selling T-shirts in celebration of VICTORIA's 20^th anniversary. They're on sale for $100 pesos during April and can be purchased form Rodrigo and Sofía in year 12.

Tequisquiapan’s Citizen Environment Council is inviting everyone to participate in their First Bald Cypress Census this Saturday 13^th April. They are meeting at Fray Junípero Serra, where you can rent horses, at 9am. Please take some silver coloured tape and/or a permanent black marker. Thank you.

There is a nice watch waiting in Reception hoping its owner will come by and claim it. Please ask your child if they have lost a watch.

Thank you very much to all of you who are respecting our traffic system by waiting in the line. I really appreciate your support with this difficult situation. I have been outside on several occasions to ask parents not to park outside the school and not to park on Francisco Javier Mina. I understand your reasons for not wanting to wait in the line (time and dust!) but I have not heard one reason that is more important than the safety of our students. Not only did we have a car accident outside the school this week due to cars being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but we have also received complaints from the Presidencia about it. This system was approved by our local authorities. Please remember the following points:

• ·         Wait in the line for your child.
• ·         Park inside school if you need to come in for any reason between 2:45pm and 3:30pm.
• ·         The only way to approach the school is via Prol. Fernando Montes de Oca.
• ·         Please be polite if a member of VICTORIA staff asks you to move your car.
• ·         Please make an appointment to talk to me about any worries or suggestions that you may have about our traffic system.
• ·         A traffic map is attached to this newsletter

A few more reminders:

• ·         My next parenting talk will be on Wednesday 17^th April and we will be continuing the theme of motivation. It starts at 1:45pm and will take place in room 1010.
• ·         The school calendar for this term is now available in the parent area of the website. Please contact Gloria Sánchez for a login name and password.
• ·         Primary students are not to bring any electronic devices to school. 
• ·         Please see Lety O or Gloria S to update your list of adults who are allowed to collect your children.
• ·         School is closed on Monday 22^nd April as we have a staff training morning and Primary parent/teacher meetings from 12pm onwards.

ESTIMADOS PADRES DE FAMILIA:

El viernes 22 de marzo, Sabine Adams visitó los grupos de Primaria. Sabine es una maestra en el Reino Unido con mucha experiencia y vino a México por un intercambio cultural. Ella estaba muy emocionada de visitar VICTORIA y se divirtió mucho con los alumnos de Año 1 y 2. ¡Me dio mucho gusto recibir retroalimentación tan positiva de su parte acerca de la conducta de nuestros estudiantes, la calidad de enseñanza y aprendizaje y todas nuestras exhibiciones llenas de color!

Algunos de ustedes deben haber escuchado los reportajes acerca de lo poco que duermen los niños en México en comparación con los niños en países europeos. Como ya lo han de saber, la falta de sueño puede tener efectos negativos en nuestra salud física y emocional, lo cual puede afectar al aprendizaje. En ocasiones, ya muy tarde entre semana, me ha sorprendido observar a algunos alumnos fuera de sus hogares. Les incluyo una liga de internet donde encontrarán algunas recomendaciones acerca de las horas recomendadas que deben dormir niños y adolescentes http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Childrenssleep/Pages/howmuchsleep.aspx   Si requieren ayuda o consejo, por favor pidan que se les de una cita con una servidora o con Miss Domínguez.

Los reportes de Primaria se envían a casa el día de hoy y las entrevistas ser llevarán acabo el lunes 22 de abril. Los alumnos de Año 3 regresaron de campamento hoy, por lo que no puedo asegurar que a todos se les haya entregado su folder. Les pido que anoten en los diarios de sus hijos las citas que requieren para platicar con los profesores. Muchas gracias.

Toda esta semana no hubo actividades extracurriculares, sin embargo, no vinieron por varios alumnos sino hasta las 4 p.m. Por favor recuerden leer la carta semanal para que estén al tanto con lo que sucede en la escuela. La palabra de la semana es palabra. Las actividades inician el lunes 15 de abril y terminan el jueves 20 de junio. Esta actividad inicia el miércoles 24 de abril.

Un recordatorio importante: Este jueves 18 de abril, vendrá al VICTORIA Francisco Hinojosa, autor del libro ‘La Peor Señora del Mundo’. La Librería Rulfo venderá sus libros a un costo entre $50.00 and $80.00. Si ustedes ya cuentan con alguno de sus libros, lo pueden traer para que él se los firme. Por favor asegúrense que tenga su nombre escrito en la parte de adentro.

La Librería Rulfo también nos invita a su Segundo Festival Literario Infantil 2013 para celebrar sus 20 años, se llevará a cabo del 12 al 14 de abril. La autora, María García Esperón, presentará sus nuevos libros y le encantará contar con nuestra presencia el domingo 14 de abril a la 1 p.m. en la plaza principal de Tequisquiapan. Nos recordará mucho al libro ‘Las Cajas de China’. Espero que no se pierdan esta maravillosa oportunidad literaria para ustedes y sus hijos.

Año 12 tiene a la venta playeras para celebrar el vigésimo aniversario del VICTORIA. Tienen un costo de $100.00 y las pueden adquirir con Rodrigo y Sofía de Año 12 durante el mes de abril.

El Consejo Ciudadano de Ecología de Tequisquiapan los invita a participar en el Primer Censo de Ahuehuetes. Este se llevará a cabo el sábado 13 de abril a las 9 a.m. en la calle Fray Junípero Serra (calle donde se rentan los paseos a caballo). Favor de llevar cinta plateada y/o un plumón permanente color negro. Muchas gracias.

Hay un reloj muy bonito esperando a su dueño en Recepción. Por favor pregunten a sus hijos si se les perdió un reloj para que lo vengan a reclamar.

Les agradezco mucho a todos por respetar nuestro sistema de tránsito al hacer la fila para recoger a los alumnos. De verdad estoy muy agradecida de contar con su apoyo con esta difícil situación. He estado al frente de la escuela en varias ocasiones pidiéndoles a los padres de familia que no se estacionen afuera de la escuela  o en Francisco Javier Mina. Comprendo sus razones por no querer hacer fila (por el tiempo y la tierra) pero no he escuchado una razón más importante que la seguridad de nuestros alumnos. Cabe mencionar que durante la semana, hubo un choque a la salida por unos autos que se encontraban estacionados en donde no debían, además hemos recibidos quejas acerca de esto por parte de la Presidencia. Este sistema fue aprobado por las autoridades de tránsito. Les pido recordar lo siguiente:

• ·         Esperen en la fila para recoger a sus hijos.
• ·         Estacionarse dentro de la escuela si necesitan tratar algún asunto entre 2:45 p.m y 3:30 p.m.
• ·         El único acceso al colegio es por la calle Prol. Fernando Montes de Oca.
• ·         Favor de ser amables si un miembro de nuestro personal les pide que muevan su auto.
• ·         Si tienen alguna preocupación o sugerencia acerca del sistema de tránsito, pidan una cita y con gusto lo podemos platicar.
• ·         Se anexa un mapa de tránsito con la carta semanal.

Más recordatorios:

• ·         Mi siguiente plática para padres será el miércoles 17 de abril y continuaremos con el tema de motivación. Inicia a la 1:45 p.m. en el salón 1010.
• ·         El calendario escolar para este periodo ya se encuentra en la sección para padres en nuestro sitio web. Favor de comunicarse con Gloria Sánchez si requieren de un usuario o contraseña.
• ·         Los alumnos de Primaria no pueden traer aparatos electrónicos a la escuela. 
• ·         Favor de ver a Lety O o a Gloria S para actualizar la lista de personas que puedan recoger a sus hijos.
• ·         No habrá clases el lunes 22 de abril ya que es un día de capacitación de maestros durante la mañana y habrá juntas entre padres de familia y maestros de las 12 p.m. en adelante.
